Why do mods like my beacon and smpl tarnish almost instantly, but my panzer has yet to even begin to tarnish with the same amount of handling?

It could be that your Panzer is made from a Beryllium Copper alloy. Which is more Resistant to Tarnishing than many other Copper Alloys.

Or, as others have Mentioned, it could have some type of Clear Coat finish on it.

The simple is an epic? Don't know if that's a clone or not. The panzer is a clone
Authentic Epic and clone SMPL mods are almost indistinguishable. The button is a little different, but IME a $9 clone is 99% 1:1 to the $100 authentic. If you do a search, there are pics that show the differences side by side. The firing button venting is really the only difference and some could argue the clones are vented better. Some clones have a pressure fit top as well and the clearcoat helps make it look like a one piece.

Unless you paid $80-120 for the SMPL, I would bet it is a clone. My copper clone SMPL doesn't patina either. My authentic SMPL was brass and it tarnished, but so did my brass clone.

I'm not sure if an authentic SMPL tarnishes, but a quick search should tell you immediately....

I traded an iStick 30 for it, so I'm gonna go with clone. Lol

Hits great though

They hit great for sure. I have 3 of them (SS, copper and brass) and traded my authentic as the clones are so good.

Be careful with your attys though. If the positive pin isn't protruding by a good mm or two, you could have a very big problem.

Just Me:

But I think part of the Misunderstand comes from the way People/OEMS use terms like "Copper" or "Brass".

Copper is an Element. But what you are Buying/Using in a Mod Isn't Pure Copper. Because Pure Copper is VERY Soft. It would Mar and Deform Very Easily. And things like Threads would Not hold up very well.

So what you are Actually buying in a Mod is a Copper Alloy. What Copper Alloy? Hard to say.

Same with Brass. Brass is an Metal Alloy of made Primarily from Copper and Zinc. But a Brass Alloy can/usually contains Small amounts of other Elements like Silicon or Aluminum or Manganese. As well as Different Proportions of Copper and Zinc.

There are Hundreds of Brass Alloys. And the can be Subtle or Dramatic differences in how the Proportions of Elements in a Brass Alloy effect things like "Strength" of an Alloy. Or the way Surface Oxidation occurs.

Thanks. Yeah not a huge fan of hybrids for that reason. I've been at this since 09 though and (knock wood) haven't had any issues. I'm careful with my battery safety.

Zoidman hit the nail on the head.
Different copper alloys used to make the mods are tarnishing at different rates.

The SMPL isnt a hybrid. Its a direct to battery mod.
Hybrids dont have 510 threads, as the dedicated atty connects directly to the tube.
Hybrids are actually one of the safest designs made. You cant put the wrong atty on a hybrid.
