Hey Blue. I just recently sat down and figured out the costs per month compared to MY smoking costs. There's more to it than juice. I use cartomizers instead of attys. They don't last as long but are a lot cheaper ($8.00 for a box of 5).
I figured that the MOST I spend in a month for everything vaping related is $110.00. (usually a lot less) I used to spend $255.00 a month or more for Benson and Hedges so the very least I save in any given month is $145.00. That's $1,740.00 a year and I should live for more years now. :)
I'd guess it's actually closer to $2,000.00 a year savings to be honest.

Has anyone done a cost comparison to analogs?

How many packs of smokes would a 15ML bottle of ejuice equate to.

The banners in some peoples signature gives a cost savings, but I don't know how accurate those really are.

15ml would last me about 8 days during which time I would have smoked 4 or 5 packs. But I vape a lot more than I smoked so I would guess, at least for me, it would translate to about 10 packs. That's a rough estimate though and it will vary from one person to the next.

I've done a real cost comparison. I'm running a spread sheet tracking all of my purchases vs cigarettes not purchased. I cut/paste from the order page or recipet into a spread sheet, categorize every line item and run a pivot table so I can see sumarized expenses.
I estimated how many packs I avoided before I quit completely, and even included a formula to adjust for purchases after 7/1/2010 when taxes went up $1.50 a pack.

So far, I've spent about $1100 total and saved about $1000 in cigarettes not bought...

So where does it all go?

1) About 1/3 of my costs are juice and I go through about 4 ml a day. I like to try different juices and I have a growing collection of juice (probably 1/2 of what I bought) that I just don't like..... but who knows- when i get a variable voltage device, I might find I like some of them at the right power setting....

2) Batteries/Mods/kits - about 1/3 went here, and I plan on spending more soon. I could have stuck with the original 510 setup but getting into HV/LR and finding a sweet spot has become a bit of a quest, and raises the ante sigificantly (you also have to buy more atties).

3) Attys/Cartos- used them both, I pefer attys, but in the end cost is probably close- maybe a bit less with attys because I prefer to drip ... about 20% there but I've got a good collection and probably won't need more for a while. Buy in bulk packs to save some $. When I finally get around to my next mod which will be variable voltage, I expect to be able to run off my stash a lot longer....

Cases, drip tips, and other misc accessories - another 10%...

That said, for me this is more about not smoking cigarettes right now vs saving money - as you get more into this and start trying things you will find some work better for you than others... you can sell or trade things here if you wish to recoupe some of your investment or hang on to it a while if you think it may become usefull later.

I figure if I invest 1 month in advance of what I would have spent on cigarettes ($10-$12/pack in NY), I'm way ahead of the game and can have some fun constantly trying new stuff ..... any $ I spent on items I no longer use or don't like will eventually get traded, sold or cut up for experimentation- Add to that it's good to have backup gear and juice around-

If you buy every mod and every different kind of e-liquid its probably dearer money wise. If you stop buying at every whim it's cheaper by a long way once you get some vape-time under your belt. I've saved a good amount of money, have plenty of juice and other things put away for any rainy day. For every pound i've spent on vaping i've saved three :vapor:

Not counting my initial investment (super mini) which just didn't work for me, I find that I am spending roughly half the cost of analogs. 2 cartons per week @ $55 per carton. And most of my cost now is trying to find the right juice. I have a growing collection and I am finding that (unfortunately) the more expensive juices are the ones that tickle my taste buds but I believe it's a fair trade off because I feel soooooo much better!

I'm spending less than half of what I used to spend on Cigs.
I actually budget $15 per week.

I was fortunate to find the PV that works great (Riva) on my 2nd try.
The first was Blu, it worked....but left me feeling like I was missing something..
Got the Riva, sweet...

I was also fortunate to quickly find one perfect juice (TV TastyFinger...mm mm good).

So, my spending got under control very quickly.

Now, I would like to find a 2nd perfect juice, to add some variety instead of just my butterfinger all day long..Not that I'm complaining, it really is that good.
I Don't see myself getting tired of it.

Has anyone done a cost comparison to analogs?

How many packs of smokes would a 15ML bottle of ejuice equate to.

For me, I've found that a 50ml bottle lasts me roughly 3-4 weeks - so let's be conservative and say 3 weeks. I was a PAD smoker so that would work out to about 6-7 packs from a 15ml bottle.

1 50ml bottle from RockyMountain costs me $22 (which includes shipping)
1 pack per day (for 21 days) @ roughly $4.60 per pack = $96.60

So in a three-week period, I save about $75. That's $25 per week which would average out to $1300 saved per year comparing juice to analogs.

Now that I'm out of my "kid in a candy store phase" and am set with my preferred equipment and juice flavors (plus tons of carts and filler), so for the occasional spare part (battery, atty, etc.) maybe $20-$25 per month (tops). So I'd say the cost savings to me works out to about $75 per month / $1k per year (after an initial "start up" cost of a few hundred bucks).

You might want to rephrase that- I'm not suggesting buying at every whim - simply set a budget that you are comfortable with. The nicer mods simply cost alot more to start with -they run from $75 to $200- they add up quick.

Initial costs for batteries and chargers add up to but also pay back over time.

You can get box mods for alot less (although some of the newest ones are right up there near $200).
You can elect to not try different voltages and different atties/cartos.
You can find a juice that is OK and not try others or even DIY on the juice.

Ultimately there is upfront cost - over time the cost will taper off and your ROI will go up. No doubt that If all I did was buy juice that I know i like, and use the gear I already have, I could get by for $60-80/month (90-120ml of juice) for the next year. But where's the fun in that?

The OP asked if anyone had cost comparison- I might have answered similarly if I didn't take the time to put all of this in a spread sheet about 6 weeks ago.

I have spent approximately $220.00 on vaping in my first month. The cost for cigarettes was approximately $130.00 a month. Now, I do have my starter kit and a backup EM-Riva kit so I should not be spending any additional money on hardware for hopefully the next 3-4 months. I have purchased 15 bottles of e-juice in varying sizes which should last me at least a couple of months. So, I should see a savings benefit after two months of vaping. I have not tried to calculate how much ml of juice = one cigarette or one pack and I probably never will, I am just not that analytical about my savings. Now if I can just quit buying all that juice:facepalm:

That's how it all starts ;-) first it's some juice - maybe try one or two new ones in your next order, then some LR atties, and some more juice, then a mod to get to true 3.7V, and some more juice, and then while you're at it 5V or 6V ... and some more juice....
congrats on your eGo- you're already ahead of the game by skipping the entry level 510s.

Up front hardware costs are higher than analogs, and ive spent a lot more than I would have on analogs. But thats because im stocking up on the things that will be difficult to get when PV's are banned. Ill break even around the end of the year.

Not everyones cost comparison will be the same, but for me I smoked about a carton of analogs per week, and vape about 15ml a week now...

Per week:
Analogs: $39.14 (California)
DIY ejuice: $4.50

Savings per week: $34.64
double-takes from strangers: Priceless!

My post was an answer to the Original Posters question not your post :p I thought my spread sheet might be a bit long !

My first year of vaping has been rather expensive since I bought a few mods. Now that I have ones that I will use for years to come, that expense can be eliminated.

I also buy attys in bulk and DIY my liquids. The upfront cost was higher but will be cheaper in the long run.

A fairly decent estimate monthly is as follows:

$6.00/month for atty
$30.00/month for liquid
$12.00/month in case I use more than 1 atty or more liquid.

Total: $48.00/month

Cigarettes: Approximately $200/month

What I realistically spend since I am always buying something for myself/friends/family: $100/month :D

Having my health back.....Priceless!

Ah... then we are on the same page :toast:
I was having one of those urges last night .. agree there are lots of discretionary items you don't need and you can go overboard and if you stick to minimum savings are significant.

Quickly wrote this up

Starter kit..........$50
Juice.................$25
Drip tip..............$07
USP Bottles........$10 <-- bunch of stuff for mixing and a lot of 15ml bottles
Atties ...............$17 <-- 5x510

Total.................$109

Cigs/week...........$24.5 <-- half a pack a day

So it will take me about 4 weeks (already been about 3) to even out and start saving from there. Sounds good to me :) Who knows how long it will take for me to run out of juice though (230ml).
