I was wondering if anyone ever has to deal with your cotton wicks always breaking apart in the middle after a couple of hits or after a day or two?

I thought that it might have been because I'm vaping till the wick was almost dry, thus the coils burning right through it. So I thought to always keep my wick wet but it still breaks apart.

Any suggestions?

What ohm/wattage are you vaping at? The only way I could see the cotton breaking is if you're burning it, which you'd likely notice.

If you're vaping at a high enough wattage though, I could see it happening so quickly that you might not even notice.

It's definitely not a normal occurrence.

What kind of cotton are you using?

If you're using Japanese cotton make sure you cut your wicks along with the grain, not across the grain. In Japanese cotton all of the fibers are lined up in the same direction. If you cut your wick across the fibers they'll just fall apart.

If you're not sure which way is which, grab each side of the sheet and give it a gentle tug. If it stretches a little then the grain goes up and down and you cut vertically, if it doesn't stretch at all then you're holding the two ends and you need to cut horizontally.

Coil is a 0.5ohm and I don't think it's burning too fast. I do notice if it's burning the wick, as a burnt look on the wick appears around where the coil and wick touch.

I try to do my best so the wick doesn't dry out. Keeping it always moist with juice.

I go back and forth with Japanese cotton and organic cotton balls. I do notice a difference with Japanese cotton and organic cotton balls, as the Japanese feels like it hold a lot stronger and longer.

Hm, .5 ohms tells me it'd be hard to burn unless you're really cranking the wattage.

What about @Completely Average's tip? Are you splitting your cotton against the grain, or with it? It seems like it'd be a hard mistake to make, but I suppose it's possible.

Well I'm using mech mod so there is really no way to control my wattage. Using a vtc3 and another 35amp battery. So I should be safe

As for too much cotton, I don't think that's ever the case for me. I kind of experimented with how much cotton to put. From loose wicking to just enough so the cotton comfortably slides through. End result is always the same. Cotton breaks in the middle after a day
