Cotton disintegrate

I have been coiling for quite some time. Have done dual coils and single, parallel and normal coils. The problem that I have is the cotton would disintegrate in the middle of the coil after several vapes. When this happens, I get a burnt taste. The rest of the cotton legs would still be soaked in juice. What am I doing wrong?

Are you using organic cotton? I take a strand of cotton, roll it in my hands a bit and loop in through the middle of the coil, tucking the ends into the bay. So there is essentially no cotton around the sides of the coil, just through the middle. How do you set your cotton up?

I agree with CL and pwheeler... too much cotton (too thick and tight in the coil)... been there, done that... cotton swells when it gets wet with juice and makes it even tighter. With cotton you want to feel just the slightest bit of resistance when you wick your coil...

One of the reasons I like using rayon (cellucotton) so much... you want it tight, and it is MUCH more forgiving on density of the wick...

density through the coil isn't right, likely to tight, and you are choking off the supply, once you've out vaped the juice in the coil, it disappears, but not enough will also limit the juice supply and same thing can happen. Heck with rayon, took one to many dry hits and heard this loud pop, fraking wick through the whole coil like vaporized on me, just get a little sizzle vape on the edges.

cotton should pull freely through coil when twisted up, once in position, untwist it to align fibers and fluff it up a bit inside the coil, position your tails, trim if necessary, saturate build, assemble fill and vape. It's the old play with it till it vape right thingy, or something like that.

Good luck have fun,

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

Ok thanks a bunch for all the info. I shall try to lessen the cotton.

Usually I would thread the cotton thru the coil and there would be some resistance. I think i should lessen the resistance. Will give it a try.

Also, I saw a video on the iteo way of wicking. The wick is saturated first then rolled before being thread thru the coil. Would this procedure help?

Kind of need to know your exact setup, sounds like you are burning your cotton. Which is too much current for your coil vs. e-juice flow. If your e-juice is not wicking properly this will happen. Why your e-juice is not wicking properly is another story altogether. let us know exactly what mod and tank setup you are using and your coil setup with resistance and power applied.

You want the cotton to be "snug" in your coil - not too loose or too tight. And if you chain vape, give some unfired puffs to help the wick to stay wet. Then after days vaping your wick will look this good still:

Another tip for ya.

Keep the rolling of the cotton in preparation for threading it in to a minimum.
Don't try to roll the entire bit of cotton in order to gain the appropriate thickness.

Rather, the goal would be to cut the cotton as close as possible to the final desired thickness, only rolling one tip to aid in the install.

I see where you've already reduced the amount of cotton you're using, hope the above makes it easier still (-:

I use a bead threader . If you can slide it through with little resistance, that's the perfect amount of cotton and vapes great. I didn't like twisting and inserting since you tightening up the cotton and it expands more than you think once its in the coil especially once you get juice into it. I also pull all my fibers so they are going one way rather than having the material going willie nillie in every direction. Cellucotton is easy to wick with since its all going 1 direction unlike cotton or hemp that the fibers are going in all directions.
