Hi,

I am using an IGO-W and Omega rebuildables. I like both, but do find the IGO a little easier to work with, but that is another thread for another time. :)

In both systems I have used 3mm silica and cotton; cotton balls or cotton rope with micro coils or just wraps. I am using 30 gauge Kanthal, as well.

It seems that no matter what I do, my cotton always burns hotter and irritates my throat and over the course of the day, can irritate my lungs. I am usually getting 1.5 to 2.0 on my ohms. No getting dry hits, just irritation and heat.

I am wondering if anyone else has run into this? Also, could I just be one of those who is irritated by cotton?

So far....silica has been a better solution for me. But, I am open to ideas and suggestions from the forum.

Thanks!

Unlike silica, cotton, if not well saturated, or if the voltage is too high (you don't say what PV or voltage)... may burn.
Another consideration is your air hole alignment (or air hole sizing)... where a misalignment of air hole to coil can produce a higher temperature vape. With those higher temperatures, typically will come weaker flavor, more TH and harshness.

Thank you. I am using 8.0 to 10.0.

The air hole may be an issue on the Omega. They are very much offset, on opposites sides, of where the coil lies.

When I first started vaping (using silica) I had the worst sore throat for a week - 10 days. I started out with 12mg liquid, looking back on it later on I realized I was probably going through nicotine withdrawal, I had all of the symptoms. The sore throat was accompanied by sleepiness and irratibility. I smoked a pack a day for 9 years and 12 mg probably wasn't coming too close to the amount of nicotine I was used to. But it sounds like your problem might just be cotton, OR your juice, If you're using a high PG liquid you could possibly have a minor allergy to it, many people do not tolerate it and it can cause them sore throats. Find out what ratio of PG/VG you liquid is and try a different wick type.
