Ok, so my lovely daughter gave me a gift certificate to a local B&M for Christmas. They were having a buy one get one free liquid sale for the day after Christmas so I took FULL advantage of it. I filled a MT3S with some new liquid and rewicked a new coil with cotton, primed it, let it sit for a few minutes, then vaped away. I was in heaven.
I vaped my MT3S down to about halfway in the sight glass (when held upright) and all of a sudden got a dry hit. I wasn't chain vaping. It had plenty of time between draws to wick more fluid in. This has happened once before, but I was vaping a liquid with a higher VG content and I figured that was probably it.
The flavor now seems slightly muted, and I was wonder if this was a common occurrence with a cotton wick after a dry hit?
It was only one dry hit and I immediately primed it before I attempted to vape.
Is it necessary to replace the cotton wick after experiencing a dry hit?
Thanks.

Now you've got me wondering. I got a little carried away yesterday with a cotton wick and thought I might have burned it a little, had a couple of nasty hits but let it sit and it got better. Today I'm getting a muted flavor, it still tastes OK but just not satisfying and I was just thinking sitting here thinking I need to rewick. I'm vaping 100% VG liquid.

Don't know if it's the dry hit or if the wick is just "clogged up" with VG.

Theres dry hits and theres burnt hits. If you tasted burnt cotton and the burnt taste lingers into the next few drags, then I'd change it. I've had dry hits that were isolated and the cotton was fine. I tend to replace cotton pretty frequently though. If the following drags still taste burnt, I'd go ahead and change it.

Sidenote: it's real easy to use too much cotton. Less is more. It should slide through the coil with just a little resistance.

Wasn't really burnt cotton taste, but I definitely tasted cotton. It was just the one hit. The following ones were fine, the flavor just wasn't as vibrant and flavorful anymore.
I think I'll rewick it.
Kinda stinks that I just did it, and could be a pain if I'm out and about or at work and didn't want ( or couldn't for some reason) to change tanks or clearomizers.
You also answered a question I had about how much cotton to use. I've been kinda doing trial and error. I also install a couple of cotton flavor wicks to help stop gurgling and leaks.
Thanks for the quick reply. I was going to refill and wanted to do both at once if a rewick was necessary. I'm lazy and didn't want to put more wear and tear than necessary on my seals, lol.
Thanks again.
