cotton yarn?

Hi everyone! I've been using just regular cotton balls for my wicks, but was thinking about trying out some cotton yarn so the thickness is a little more consistent throughout the wick. Just a couple questions:
Does the yarn wick better worse or differently than a rolled piece of cotton ball?
Is it important for it to be organic? if so, why?
Does it come labeled by size of thickness?
Can I pick some up at like hobby lobby or Michaels or will I need to order online?
Is it really important to boil it? If so, why?
Any other helpful tips or anything I missed is more than welcome too

Being organic means it's not bleached or color treated. No such luck here, I use sterile cotton gauze for my coils. Also you could use food grade yarn, the one you use to tie meat. Same stuff, but you'll have to make several rolls if your coil is too wide.
