hess,

It is very common to cough when you begin vaping. I coughed so bad I couldn't understand what everyone thought was so wonderful about it, let alone how anyone could possibly quit smoking for it. (truth!) I found that it is something that your lungs will adapt to in time, (just as they did when you first lit up a cigarette) and will do so more quickly when you've given up the analogs. At least that's how it went in mine and my boyfriends cases. We also learned that we were sensitive to PG, the higher the PG the more we coughed.

Try some different PG/VG ratio juices, as well as 100% of one or the other and see if it helps. Good Luck and stick with it, it really is worth it! =)

vaping is not like smoking. It's difficult to explain to another person how to vape. Don't inhale directly into your lungs. Take small inhales into your mouth and then your lungs. It's not even necessary to pull all that much vapor into your lungs because the nicotine isn't absorbed by your lungs the way it is when you smoke cigarettes.

My sister had a very difficult time and thought she couldn't vape and that her juice was too strong. I got her some very low nicotine, light flavored juice for her to practice with. Once she was able to vape without coughing she went back to the regular juice she ordered.

Possibly it's the juice. Or the pg ratio, or the nic strength. But it could be that you need to practice a bit with your juice. Get some VG from the pharmacy and dilute it with a few drops and see if it helps.

You got your juice from BWB? I believe his juice is all 70/30. Not sure and his site is down. He doesn't have the option but some sites do. You can always get a bottle of zero nic and reduce your juice so you don't lose flavor.

I ordered 12 & 24 when I started. I figured I could add to the 12 or reduce the 24. Even mix them together for 18. The 24 was fine.

Note: What gets you off cigs at first may not be the strength you stay with. Sometimes people need stronger the first week or two to get off cigs. See how you do with cigs before you reduce too much.

Funny you posted this. I too got a Riva 510 recently, and in my first few uses of it, I burnt my throat pretty bad where I felt it for several hours. I came from 808D type c-cigs, so I had to re-adjust how much I take in. Now I'm getting great puffs with no burn. Just takes some time.

Vapor burns sooo much worse than smoke sometimes.

Before I started vaping I coughed all the time from smoking, however I decided that I was really going to try to make vaping work. At first my lungs weren't use to vapor and I still coughed, and for a while I thought that vaping may not be for me. Then slowly the coughing subsided. I still cough a little when I take a big hit, but not as much as I use to. I still wonder what happens to the vapor after I inhale and cough while the vapor is still in my lungs ... no vapor comes out. Big mystery! A big hit in the morning is an automatic cough. At night it isn't. I know for sure that vaping is saving my life now that I've gotten somewhat use to it and that's all that matters. The best advise I have is to give it a chance. You may start to really enjoy it like most of us do.
