Hi there

Not even a DIY newbie, but as a newbie on all-vaping things I'd like to get a couple of things clear before moving on.

I bought a lot of juice from Good Prophets and it got here yesterday, not loving it for sure, it's all 24mg nic and most of them are Fruit flavors, but the nic smell is too strong and it doesn't taste good at all .... should I let it steep for a while or is there little chance for it to get better?

Also, on a more DIY note, I was looking at this site Flavorings and was wondering if I can buy some of those flavorings to add to premixed juices to get a stronger, better flavor?

Should I get their unflavored nic juice and some of the other flavorings to try to create my own stuff ?

Let me know what you think, and sorry about the very basic questions, but it is what it is :)

ohh cr*p ... I didn't mean to be rude, don't use to leave threads unanswered, but seems like the 100+ degree temp everyday it's making a dent in me :)

I was checking the Flavor West website, based on your post, and it seems their pricing is really good. Do you suggest getting some of those to try to mix my own stuff ? Are those any good to ADD on to premixed juices ?

Thanks and sorry about not answering your previous post

I mostly mix my own juice, but early on I ordered pre-mixed juices; about half of which I didn't like.

Some of these can be "fixed" and some can't. I got a couple of juices that I just threw out because they messed up atomizers even when diluted with other juices 1:5.

If the juice doesn't mess up atomizers, you can of course dilute it in other juices or add flavors. Personally I would recommend doing both. That is, make some other 24mg flavored nic juice with which to dilute the stuff you don't like.

Ok, I ordered 90ml of 48mg of unflavored nic
Some flavor West flavorings and a couple LorAnn flavorings too

What would you suggest? Get 5ml bottle, fill with nic and start playing with the amount of flavoring drops?
I need to order some Attys too, I only have cartos right now :p

Nooooo!

At 48mg/mL you do NOT want to just add flavoring! That stuff needs to be cut down to something less toxic. High nic is usually around 24mg/mL (although some people vape 36) so in your final mix, that's what you want to shoot for.

Your best bet is to get some unflavored 0 nic PG and/or VG, mix to whatever ratio you like (70/30 etc.) and play with that for flavoring, making very small batches. Take lots of notes as to how much of what you put in it.
Once you get the flavor down to where you want it, remake the blend using the properly proportioned nic juice.

Of course there are shortcuts. You might try diluting some of your 48mg with PG or VG (or a blend of both) down to around 26mg and use that to play with flavors. If you use 10% flavorings, you'll end up with right around 24mg as the final product. Less nic if you use more flavoring, and more nic if you use less, but either way it will not go higher than 26 mg and the result is usable nic wise although taste wise, a disaster is always possible.

A disaster most likely :)

Thanks for the heads up, I don't remember if I ordered bottles of PG and VG, I had some in my cart but don't know if it was on this order or not, will check that.

So, it should be something like :

Unflavored nic 48mg (I ordered this >> http://www.onestopdiyshop.com/products/Flavor%252dIt%252dYourself-Special.html)
PG or VG- or a mix
flavoring

that should be something somewhat vapable right ?

If you mix 46% 0 nic with 54% of your 48 mg/mL nic base you'll get a result of just under 26 mg/mL to work with. which would be vapable until you add flavorings. Then the "somewhat" part comes into play.

For a 5mL bottle you would mix 2.7mL of nic base with 2.3 mL of 0 nic. Add flavorings to taste and vape away.

A note of caution though. Many flavors need to steep a bit before they truly show themselves in your mix. Today's disaster may be tomorrows dream and vice versa. If you get the flavors just perfect today, it might be overwhelming tomorrow but that's an easy fix. Just add a 24mg/mL unflavored base to your mix until you get the flavor back down. If it's too weak, add more flavor.

And always take notes. Few things are as irritating as making a 5mL batch of pure nirvana then discovering you don't know what you put in it.

Good luck and happy experimenting!

puntadigital - In response to your post in the other thread I provided a link to a calculator. This tool will do all the work for you and actually contains recipes too and you can save your own to the database. I would HIGHLY suggest using a e liquid calculator. There is tons of info in the DIY section. Best of luck

Thanks a lot for the help y'all

I just received my unflavored nic and flavorings, so I'd wait for the bottles of pure VG and PG I ordered so I can start mixing.

I have some humco glycerin (don't remember what it was used for) but I guess is some sort of alternative to PG, is that right ?

If yes, can I use it to mix some stuff until I get my real VG and PG ?

You guys have a nice weekend

Yes many people use Humco. It is VG. If your nic is based in PG that will work perfect :) I use this calculator because it is very simple to use and I don't have excel on my computer :)
eJuice Recipe Calculator
If you cut your 48 mg nic with 50% of your Humco VG you will have 24 mg nic and once you add 10-20% flavor it should be a good mix for starters :)

My nic is 48mg 50/50 VG-PG ..... mhhh I always hated math :)

OOH I hate the already mixed in PG/VG that makes it harder to get it exactly how you like it unless it is already the strength that you like to vape :( So you need more PG unless you want a mix that is mostly VG? You could dilute it with 10% distilled water if it is too thick for your carto or atty :)

Well, no math involved, but I finally "fixed" my gummy bear juice from GotVapes. Awesome flavor but no throat hit, so I put some juice in a bottle, added some 48mg juice and a few drops of Flavor West gummy bear flavoring and voila !!!!

FW Gummy Bears also has alcohol in it so that along with the nic is what helped the TH :) I like Gummy Bears too.
