i am seem to be getting some pretty crap performance from my A7 rba. built a new coil with 28g at .7ohms on a k100 using a 18650 and the vapor production is pretty crap.the coil is gorgeously wrapped and picture perfect. i would show you but then i would have to rinse it out and i dont feel like doing that at the moment. is the air hole too small on the A7? i thought at .7 ohms it preform great. disappointing so far. my protank gets triple the amount of vapor that this A7 does at 2.7ohms.

i should also add i am using one strand of 3mm silica. not much room for anymore. left about half inch of wick on each side and tucked them into the catch cup or dripping well whatever you want to call it. with the cap off it fires and looks like its producing a lot of vapor. but when i put the cap on and position the air hole right beside the coil its pretty crap performance

i thought the a7 was a bottom feed so the wick would need to be dead center over the air feed tube.

mine used to hammer out the vapor, i just didnt like how hot it gets.

usually i find with most smaller body side hole rda's drilling the hole a bit helps a lot. i have several phoenix style clones that didt seem to work well until i upped the airflow.

the only one i see there that could possibly pass for an A7 clone would be the wyvern. drill the side hole, make sure the coil is close and the air is coming in right on the center of the coil and i bet it will get better.

other then the wyvern i dont see any thing close to an a7 cept for the mini a7

the problem with this thing is the air hole is like a mile away from the coil lol. its really far from the coil so i have no idea how they thought this would work well. especially with such a small hole. very poor design

lol im a ill make it work if it kills me kind of rba-er. but yea sometimes the knockoffs are just poor design

in the phoenix clones there should be an oring on the body with enough play to let you adjust the airhole a bit. in mine i have the air coming in over the side of the coil not directly on the center. and every phoenix i have had so far sucked until i drilled them out.
all may not be lost just yet just needs a slight adjustment :)

if you have this:

take the cap and hold ip to the body to see exactly where the air comes in next to the coil, nudge the wick up or down to make it same height, drill the airhole and put it off center of the wick just a touch and i bet it be a 100X difference.

dont attach the coil like they have it in the picture put both legs on same side to bring the wick closer to the airhole as well, like this

the phoenix design, clone or not should work great or it wouldnt be around this long. i never could figure out why they have little pinholes in them for airflow..

its a pheonix clone sorry not a A7. thought they were the same.

Had me going for a sec. A7 has bottom air, not side. Try opening the airhole a bit on that phoenix and you can use an o-ring on the base to allow for better alignment with the coil.

Edit: What he said:

my posts inside the clone are messed up as well. one post will spin when i tighten the screw down all the way the other post does not spin its fixed in there. the post that doesnt move the whole is faced in a awkward positions. might try and attach the coil wire on the heads of the screws rather then the post holes. however i did push the coil up higher so its inline with the hole and it is working better but not where a .7ohm coil should be but it is better.

Ha! I got 2 of those clones way back when. The first one had the post popping out problem. Honestly, there have been sooo many advances in rba's since that design came out, it's kind of obsolete. Look into getting one that has a flat deck like a mini rda or phoenix v4-8? Fasttech has the Igo-l for <$8, Great deal on a great dripper. I don't use those original phoenix's anymore, just too many problems with the design, AFAIC. Tall insulators that get burnt and what-not. Probly not what you want to hear, but maybe your best option to a more hassle-free rda experience.

Edit: or else get a true A7, best clone dripper imho, but it's bottom air so if used on a regular tube it may have leaking issues, but only if over-filled.

i will say - for what it is the octopus puts out some impressive vapor. i plugged the deck hole and drilled a new one on the side next to the wick, but even before the modding it hammers out some clouds. so you should at least be able to enjoy that one.

i couldnt even begin to add up all the POS things piled up in a box, sold off or tossed. live and learn.

I got one as well and didn't like it, but then I went modding it and things are much better:

- drilled two 1/16" holes at opposite sides, the line they form are perpendicular to the (imaginary) line you have from the posts

- with a dremel, wore down the central feeding tube to be flush with the bottom plate where the posts start

- as I dont have a bottom feeder, used a short section of a boge carto's condom to close the juice feeding tube from the bottom (at the connection)

- packed just a small but dense ball of cotton tight and pushed it onto the same hole from the top

Done, now I have a larger size Phoenix on which I'm enjoying my vertical mesh wick (about 2mm thick) with 3/4 wraps of 28 kanthal.
