Oh no.

I just bought a cyclone last week. The gentleman I bought it from put screws in instead of leaving the rice-looking screws in.

I went to clean my coils and readyxwick, there was a fire. There was no excess juice in the well or anything. I could see that the screws were touching and they turned black immediately.

The Reo felt odd, so I opened it up and the battery fell out. :( My gold spring has collapsed.

Luckily, I have a spare spring. However, I don't have the first idea on how to fix it.

It looks like my battery is indented on the flat side.

Did I ruin everything? Can you guys direct me on how to change out the spring? Do I have to replace anything in the top of the Reo?

Is my cyclone ruined? And the battery?

I hate to be a drama queen, but this is DRAMA!!!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You did not ruin everything ,the spring protected your battery, It work like it's supposed to. The indent in the battery was there before, you just noticed it now, happened to me when charging and letting the spring slam the battery against the post in the charger. now that I'm careful to gently insert and remove the batteries from the charger I don't get that anymore.

On to the spring, You just need to remove the screw in the bottom of the Reo. It can be hard to turn so pushing the base plate counter clockwise or to the back of the Reo can help loosen it. In cases where you cannot get it lose at all Rob recommends using a pliers to pull out the old spring.

I checked both the battery and the Cyclone on another Reo and both still work!

Could someone tell me what those little screws in the cyclone are called and what size I need? I would like to order some and get rid of the regular screws all together so this doesn't happen again.

Thank you guys for all of your help!

Glad all is fixed!! Also great to know bout those screws!! I've got 2 cyclones, an auth and a clone, and was wondering earlier if tiny phillips head screws would be ok......now I know not to chance it!! Had wondered cuz two tiny PH screws are in the ERA I got and it seems to be working fine and the cyclone seems just about the same in size. Probably need to get those screws off the cyclone now after reading this. Does anyone know if those screws are the size that go on the nuppin too by chance??

I've run with tiny Philips in mine for two years, no problem. Unless the post got bent so they touch it was probably the coil touching the side of the cap or the deck that caused the short.

I have a cyclone from filthy-beast that is perfect and it was converted to screws. I am not changing that back.

I bought another cyclone from someone in the wanted threads last week. The screwdrivers in his weren't as pretty as the picture above (filthy-beast's). That should have triggered me to change them, but I simply didn't know. Now I do!!!

I even bought a special tool instead of using an allen wrench. I bought it here:Hudy US Standard Allen Wrench (0.035" x 60mm) [HUD123520] | RC Cars - AMain.com - AMain.com

Take care!

Deaboo,

The screws the Rob sells on the site for his RM2's work perfectly. Just an FYI!

Take care,

Thanks Dani and FB. Mine don't touch, so I reckin they're fine. I just got concerned seeing the post, that somehow maybe something could arc between them since they're very close. But sounds like all is good. Have an auth and a clone cyclone, will check this out on both. Gonna trade the auth for an RM2 so will get to try that atty. If I like it enough, will probably get a milled Rm2 for the mini at some point rather than milling the mini down. Still not totally decided on that.
