CrossFire or Single GPU's

I am curious to hear your thoughts on the following. This is completely related to folding not gaming. I currently have no problems with any of the games I play so that is not of concern. I am currently running one GPU but just purchased another for future proofing. (like that really ever works) My Question is whether to use the two graphics cards separately or run them in CrossFire. Which should produce better results for computing algorithms?

Note: The cards are the same make, model, and series. I imagine that the 2 running in CrossFire would be faster but would it be twice as fast. Running them separately should allow me to queue up 3 Wu's at a time. Thoughts?

You should get more points and have less problems running them separate.

I've only minimally experimented with SLI over here, but yeah, seems a lot more productive to split 'em.

I wish I had a better answer....my 6950 2GB OC Dirt 3 edition refuses to fold...not matter what. The 6950 1GB version works fine...

I would imagine you would get more overall production though by splitting them

Did you disable xfire in the catalyst control center and add both cards in the folding client? I'm 99.9% sure it's better separate.

It's only 1 card, so no xfire

Sorry, I was assuming you had both cards in the same rig. I can try to help a little more later today but right now it's time for bed.

Thanks for the responses. I was kind of thinking that they might show better results separately. It also appears that"Folding@Home" might not support CrossFire. Right now I am using V7 Console. Will the console pickup my second GPU automatically after it is added or will i need to figure out how to manually the second GPU?

I think you will need to manually add it but it's pretty easy. Here's a link that shows exactly how to set it up;

Second ATI card fell through so i switched teams... now running SLI without any noticeable decrease (I tried both). ATI just does not seem optimized for folding. Happy with my results.
