Today, after purchasing a Crown UWell and installing the nickel TC coils, the first one tasted and showed burnt after about 3 hits. The IVP3 Li mod was set at 35 joules and 450 degrees F at the time. The coil was primed, and the unit sat about 15 minutes before use. So, the vape shop installed a second TC coil, and the same thing occurred.

Do we have a defective batch of coils or is there a step the vape shop, being new to this product, was unaware of?

The shop said they could not be responsible, at which point my offer was to dispute my credit card charge for everything I bought there today. At that point, they gave me a box of 0.5 Kenthal coils, hoping the regular temp mode vape wouldn't be as hot in a normal vaping range, along with a guilt trip.

This folks is a pain in the ..., not to mention that the use of e-liquid was just beyond belief in a few hours.

Do I write off this Crown as too advanced for me, and get something more reliable for TC use? I do like the IVP Li mod, both the power and the minimalist industrial look.

Suggestions? I found the Herkales a pretty warm vape, but I didn't try in TC mode. Freemax Starre concerns me in that local shops will not be familiar with this unit. As for the Arctic, I've heard flavor issues as of late. As for the smok VCT4, TC coils are not yet available, and they are the only ones capable of decent wattage.

That almost leaves the Atlantis 2 as the default---- unless there is more that can be done with the Crown? This is my second sub-ohm, first being a Kanger Mini with an iStick 40 TCW. No great shakes, but it is what I will have to rely on until this gets sorted out. I guess a Herakles or Arctic might work too, not sure.

Open to suggestions, and thanks,
Mike

I primed by putting 5 or 6 drops of juice in the top of the coil, about 2 in each side hole, let it sit 30 min, and about 5 dry puffs. I hear stories about people letting it sit much longer like a day or two. Is that or other advisable? Started around 40w and then increased to mid 60s. I have used an 0.5 SS for past week and so far not an issue.

Also, i put an 0.5 kenthal in my Arctic. Worked great for 2 days but now this coil is burnt.

Thanks for any suggestions. I know many like to build and tinker but I tried sub ohm as an alternative to that. Clearly i have something yet to learn about priming.

What I saw others recommending was not to put juice in the sides, but rather SLOWLY prime it from the top until you can start to see the color changing on the sides from white to off white / yellow. This is the best indicator that the coil has been saturated. I then maybe let it sit for an 30-60 minutes, but I know others have let it sit overnight. Not sure letting it rest for two days is going to do anything, but I will say you have to go thru at least a tank when you put a new coil in for the flavor to really come out.

I love the .25 and .50 SS as well, so if the .5 is working for you, keep using it. But I wouldn't give up on the Ti yet -- could be a bad batch of coils, but I have personally yet to have a bad Crown coil.

I had very similar problems and uwell took care of the issue really quick. Give them a call and explain what is happening. They sent me new coils a new rba deck and a new base. Now I'm loving my crown again. And when I prime my coils I just put 8 to 10 drops on top of the coil and put it in and fill up. Then I just start off at a lower wattage and slowly go up to my sweet spot. Hope this helps the people at uwell are awesome and they should help quickly.

No I don't let mine sit at all. I use em right away but 5-6 drops from the top isn't nearly enough, usually I put 10-15 drops around the entire top, the sides don't matter at all since it'll get soaked as soon as you put the body on. You want it to soak from top to bottom it may slightly flood your coil but that's very easily fixed as opposed to burning your cotton which effectively ruins the coil all together. There is a somewhat thick layer of cotton around the entire coil which is exactly why 5-6 drops isn't cutting it.

There is a reviewer on YouTube called Quest4Vape that has a very detailed video on priming Uwell coils. He uses a .25 coil in the presentation. It IS a time where you have to have patience to properly wick these coils. The video is very informative.
Since applying these steps to my Crown, I haven't had any problem with my .25 or.50 coils using a 70vg mix.
Hope this helps!

I don't know is this will work to get you to the video. I am a empty nester and don't have a media-savy kid here at the house anymore to help me out. This is a good example of what happens when a adult is let loose on the laptop!:danger:

I prime on the side holes, sometimes I dont. Sometimes I let them soak for 20 minutes, sometimes I put a few drops in the top and let her rip. Never had any issues till my last 2 boxes. Some poor QAing at the factory or some really good fakes? I hope the rest of my 5 boxes are legit. Hope we dont see too many more posts like this, I love my Crown and really love scoring boxes of coils for sale less than $10.

You thinking the cheapened something up? My new .25s are black ring, my old stock is white.

Well, no response from that online vendor so I do not feel too bad sharing. I purchased 5 boxes of .25 ohm coils from vaporworld.biz for less than $10 per box. I have used them in the past and found them to be very upstanding. I am now in to my 3rd box and am finding every other coil to be bad. Either really tight draw, different wiring (looks different) and varying resistances or just dont work. Bummer, there are some fakes that look great in the box. Beware. All coils from last vendor (good) and this vendor (bad) have black rings fyi. Bummer!
