I've used all 3 methods. From what I've read in the forum, nicotine begins to break down at 150 degrees. My crock pot was close to that. I have an ultrasonic with an 8 minute timer. I use 15 8 minute cycles - a few with heat on, a few with heat off, repeat. My temp stays around 140. In my opinion the ultrasonic takes a week off the steeping time at the least. I leave my juices to breathe open overnight afterwards.

Crockpot on the lowest setting, lid cracked, should be right around 150 degrees. 4 hours with the lids tightly on - done! (And usually even better the next day)! You can get a small crockpot from Target for $10 :)

Utrasonics tend to have shut off times, which makes leaving them in there for any length of time annoying, because you have to keep resetting them.

That said, I rarely steep any of my DIY, but occasionally the crockpot is a lifesaver!
