I'm very new to vaping (2 days old actually) but I did do a lot of research before buying my Ego-c e-cig, and I have a lot of questions.

First of all, i want to say that i've had a lot of trouble making it work. I'd put the head and atomizer together, tried it to see if it worked, only to realize it wouldn't. Change the atomizer, same thing. I tried different combinations for about an hour before removing the metal part underneath the atomizer, and it worked. But only for a day.
So i changed the atomizer again, didn't work. Tried another one, same problem. I tried them all, more than once, and at some point, it work for a reason i couldn't fathom. So i vaped for an hour or so, and it started tasting burnt.
So i changed the atomizer, again, for another 20 tries. Found another working combination that might be the same one, because I still have a burnt taste. I doubt that i got 4 duds out of 5, but it could be possible, i guess.

I read on this forum that an ego-c's tight seal might create a vacuum, cause a dry wick and therefore a burnt taste, so I pulled out the tank by about 1mm, and it works, but i don't get the same vapor, it's a lot thinner, having more air in it.

About the burnt taste, I also read that the PG/VG ratio might cause it, but depending on the source the "perfect" ratio varies, some say more VG other more PG, can anyone help? I'm thinking about experimenting with e-juices and making my own, so this would help a lot.

Last question, is vaping this complicated for everyone, or is Murphy, of the Law fame, on my case?

PS: sorry for such a long post

@john: I'm a newbie also. For me simpler is better till I get the hang of things. I use cartomizers. Used prefilled cartos till I felt comfortable with that. Now I'm starting to fill my own. That's where I am in this adventure.
Btw 8 days analog-free.
Don't give up. Never give up. You can do this with the help of these great folks @ ecf

I started out with an ego-c and after about 9 weeks in and trying a few other methods, I can say that I can't stand those attys. The wick is packed so tight that only thin juices can get down there. Cartomizers are a cheap (way cheaper than ego attys!) and easy solution. People rave over the Boge 510 cartos, although I haven't tried those particular ones yet. I prefer dripping, but use cartos for driving and when I'm somewhere that dripping is inconvenient.

I know exactly what you're going through, once the primer liquid has run through the atty, you get a mouth full of nastiness. Some folks love them, but they just weren't for me and the types of juice I use. Definitely use your thinnest juices in them and give a 5-pack of cheap cartos a try, I think you'll be happy with them. :)

Welcome to the forum John. I'm sorry your having issues.

I started with an ego as well but I used cartomizers to start (cartridge & atomizer combined). For me, that was a very easy set-up. Hopefully someone will be along to help you with your setup.

Personally, I think all tanks, clearos, etc. are a little finicky for a new vapor. Some people have no issues, other's do and need to make adjustments. If you can, pick up a box of boge 2.0 or any 510 cartomizers and use them until you can get your ego-c working properly.

That's the beauty of an ego, it's very versatile.

Something to consider with the ego tanks, too, is that you should never fill them completely. Fill them only 2/3rds of the way full. Otherwise, you invariably end up with an air bubble from inside the tank cap that's stuck to the atty, and it takes FOREVER to get that to go away, so you're sucking burning atty for a while... and that's no fun. Pre-dripping a bit helps, too.

Still, I haven't used my tank attys (either ego-C or ego-T) since I jumped to carto-tanks and clearomizers. I REALLY like clearomizers -- it's what the ego tank system should be!

Crystal Clear Vaping has good prices and free shipping on boge cartos, and you get a free drip tip if you buy the 15 pack.

Cartos are by far the most popular choice around here, but personally I prefer Vision clearos from GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Hang in there. There is definitely a learning curve and some experimenting to find what you like best, but it is very much worth it. :D

ETA: The perfect PG/VG ratio is a personal preference, but VG is thicker and will cause more difficulty with wicking. Try higher PG mixes if you think your juice is not wicking properly.

It's time for the "eGo" to stop getting so over-hyped. It's too bad that more people recommending them don't have more comparative experience. There are just better options in the same size, category and price range. Specifically the E-Power, Kgo and Riva all have better batteries and in the case of the E-Power much lower battery cost moving forward.

Good luck with getting past your issues.

Wow, so many answers, you guys are really supportive of your noobs, that's really cool. Thank you

@tidegirl, thanks the suggestions, but being Canadian, i find it easier to order from a Canadian site. This way, i won't have any problems with customs. Also, i've had the best customer service possible from Welcome to E-Juice Wizard - Buy Kits and Premium E-Juice . I know that in this day and age it may sound silly, but I don't mind paying a bit more if I get an excellent service, and after they were so nice and understanding with me when there was a mess up in my order, I have to say they won me over.

Lastly, other than thickness, is there a difference between PG or VG? I think i remember reading that VG gave thicker vape, but is there a change in the taste at all?

PG tends to let more of the throat hit and flavor through. VG mutes both flavor and throat hit but produces more visible vapor.

Agreed with wv2win -- PG tends to give a bit more flavor, VG tends to give more vapor. VG tends to be a "thicker" sensation in the mouth, more similar to the "thick" sensation of smoke that PG doesn't provide. However, VG does mute throat hit because of this, so if you're looking for something that packs a punch, you might want to play with your balance of both. I find that I work well in the midrange (40/60, 50/50, 60/40 ratios), but if I go too far one direction or the other, it isn't an all-day vape for me. (The exception to this rule is if I have a sore throat, because I'll go higher VG while suffering a head cold to mute TH. Found that one out real fast.)

No worries there, I didn't notice the location. And that doesn't sound silly at all... demand for decent customer service is making a comeback, luckily for all of us. :)
