Czech study of 1,738 cigarette smokers finds that half have used an e-cig at least once.
Among smokers who had used an e-cig, 18.3% reported regular use of e-cigs, and 14% reported daily use of e-cigs.
Among smokers who reported regular use of e-cigs, 60% reported reduced cigarette consumption.

Please note that this study only included people who were seen smoking or buying cigarettes, and as such, didn't include any vapers who already quit smoking.

From the Czech study:

Conclusions: Almost one-fifth of smokers who try ECs once go on to become regular users. ECs may develop into a genuine competitor to conventional cigarettes. Government agencies preparing to regulate ECs need to ensure that such moves do not create a market monopoly for conventional cigarettes.

CHEST Journal is the "official publication of the American College of Chest Physicians," so I'm assuming it will have good readership in the US. Very encouraging! Thanks for posting this, Bill.

I know the authors of this new study, and have been urging them to opposed any regulatory scheme for e-cigs that would ban many/most of the products and give the e-cig industry to Big tobacco.

Please note that the American College of Chest Physicians has urged FDA to regulate (er ban) e-cigs.
