James 2:18 (KJV)
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

I love both of these verses. James 2:18 is an eye opener for those who live by works alone....kind of like an "oh yeah? Let me show you your first mistake." John 16:33.....Deems shouting and dancing words! Whoo Hoo!:banana::banana:

The way I have always thought about James 2:18 is that of course you cannot "work" your way to heaven.......BUT if you are a Christian and claim to have faith, you HAVE to SHOW it in your life. You have to (and should WANT to) commit works that demonstrate your faith. If you truly have faith, committing "works" of faith should just come naturally.

    No you can't
I've just heard in the last week a Minister talk on this subject and it made perfect sense to me.

The faith that we receive is from God that Faith brings us to the cross and what Jesus did for us, then we must make a choice if we choose to believe that Jesus paid the price for us and God raised Him up then God changes us. The works you see that some do who believe and have faith in God is the Works of God.

IMO: If I say I have works, then I fool myself for the Works that I see is God working in me. If I see myself doing good then I see God working through me. Psalm 37:23 "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way."

The scripture says in Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    Proverbs 9:12 (KJV)
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
    – Psalm 9:8-10

    Titus 1:15 (KJV)
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

I love Proverbs! It's easy to read and chocked full of truth! Psalm 9:8-10, I wondered where that verse was....'a refuge in times of trouble.' Yep, I know that verse upclose and personal. I think we all do. But our Almighty God will NOT leave our side. Amein!

Titus 1:15 is being seen all over the world today. There are people who murder without a second thought. Their conscience is defiled. They have no respect for human life.....and it will get worse.:(

Once again, a Scripture I knew was in the Bible, but didn't know exactly where. 'And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then the end will come.' I knew it was end time prophesy, but I didn't know the exact verse. Matthew is just chocked full of awesome information. I guess that's why I love it the best! :)

    John 5:19 (KJV)
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Talk about obedience.....Whoa! Plus, this verse from John 5:19 starts with "Verily," which means IMPORTANT....LISTEN UP! So, it is very important for us to know that the Son, Jesus, won't do anything apart from the Father. He chooses not to, as we should also do. We have the power within, but we don't utilize it. (I'm including myself.) The question is....why don't we choose to? :confused:Just one of those questions we can ponder on and answer for ourselves.

    Colossians 3:2 (KJV)
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
    – Philippians 4:4, 6

Bill, I don't know how you do it, but you have the best quotes from the Bible around! I always look forward to seeing what will be next. What a simple thing that helps so many people! Your posts have many hits and as I once said, you bring truth and it's appreciated by so many. Again, thank you!

My affections are on things above. I am ready......beam me up!''

There is nothing like walking outside at night, looking at the vast sky with stars, and just saying, "Hi, Lord!" You just know in your heart that He's glad too see you!" It's awesome that the Creator of everything is interested in everything about you.....that He makes time to fellowship with His children. I've had prayers answered immediately, which is the coolest thing ever.....others answered within weeks, months, and even years. But He always answers! Maybe in a completely different way I was expecting, but He answers! 'Ye have not because ye ask not." That's simple enough that even a child can understand. :)

    1 John 3:1 (KJV)
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

1John 3:1 - Now that Scripture, believe it or not, should just slap us across the face! Why, you ask.......because we grow lukewarm from time to time. (Me included.) We get so wrapped up in what is going on from day to day like a soap opera that we sometimes forget the depth and love of God and the cost at Calvary! How dare us take God's love for granted! What ungrateful children we are. No wonder God takes us to the wood shed! I've been there many many times! We take for granted: our food, our clothes, our homes or apartments, our cars, our loved ones, our jobs (for those that work), our health, our entertainment, everything! The only way I can be called a 'son of God,' is if I surrender myself to Him totally. I know that I don't live like God wants me to....of course I could hide behind my health issues, and I have, over the years from time to time, but we need to stand tall because of who we are....face the world with the confidence that God gives us, so that God can work through us. Now it's harder for those who have families to take care of as it would be if we were single. But God can utilize us within our families, or alone. He can figure out a way! We have to remember that the world didn't know Jesus, why would they recognize us? :)

We are made righteous by the Blood of Jesus, Righteousness comes from God.

A Good Man verses a Righteous Man

    By David J. Stewart

“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” —Matthew 28:19-20

In Romans 5:7-8 the Bible makes a distinction between a good man and a righteous man. What's the difference? A good man is being right with humanity; whereas, a righteous man is being right with God. It's that simple. Ephesians 2:13, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” We are made right with God through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
    http://www.soulwinning.info/articles/righteous_man.htm

IMO: Now when I read the verse VP posted it makes a lot more sense to me, I shouldn't be surprised with the amity between the world and us, God is aligning me to His way's and the world rejects Gods way's. In 2000 years nothing has changed.

    1 John 3:1 (KJV)

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

    – Psalm 23:1-3

God's children have been called sheep. Sheep aren't the smartest critters on the planet. Actually, they are one of the dumbest, which means they have to be completely cared for. We need a Shepherd! There are too many predators out and about. The expression wolf in sheep's clothing comes to mind. 'I shall not want.' That means all of our needs are fulfilled by the Shepherd. 'He maketh me lie down in green pastures,' means that He always takes His children to the lush green pastures for food and to sleep. 'He leadeth me beside the still waters' - sheep are spooked by noise which means the still waters are non-threatening....calm for resting and drink. 'He restoreth my soul' - restful sleep for the sheep while the Shepherd stands guard. 'He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake' - meaning He would never lead us astray and will always show us the correct path to take.....always! :)
