We have a Daschund by the name of Dargo. For any who have one or knows about this breed, they know that they are territorial and mouthy. A leaf falls from the tree......bark, bark, bark, etc. A worm crawls through the grass....same thing.
Last night, and I don't like going out into the yard at night alone but had no choice, I let Dargo run without a leash and my malti refuses to wear a collar, so I had husband's malti on a leash out of the three of them. Dargo hit the yard barking (like he always does) and as I rounded the shrubs, I see 2 figures in the middle of my neighbor's driveway and they weren't my neighbors. We are a Castle Doctrine state, so we always make sure we are armed along with a flashlight. Dargo ran barking and stopped at our curb. These two figures started to scamper, so to add insult to injury, I put on my flashlight (strong beam) on these two. They went behind the car parked on the area next to the carport. I kept checking around neighbor's house with my flashlight, but didn't see them again. Went inside and called my neighbor. I've lived across the street from these people for 8 years, and they've never received a call from us.....especially at that late hour. They said they'd call the police, and almost twenty minutes later, the cops roll up.....no lights or siren. I waited for them to question me, I did my thing and came back into the house. I was not to be messed with last night. I was a woman on the edge!!
Dargo was the 'little man' of the hour. I was so proud of him. Don't ever under-estimate the little ankle bitters. They earn their keep plus give you great adoration their entire lives! I've yet to see a cat bark at an intruder. J/K to all of you feline mama's and daddy's out there! I was a feline person most of my life, until I got my maltese. I jumped the fence, so to speak. Never looked back.
