Dark brown juice after some time...

In my experience it seems that usually only happens to sweeter dessert flavors. Especially custard style ones. When I used to vape sweet I never had a problem vaping juice that went brown. Gunked coils a little faster. That was about it. Tasted fine. Heck, some tasted better when that happened.
I don't think it's oxidation like nic base turning more yellow over time. It's probably related to a specific chemicals in some flavorings.

Most of my mixes with no nic. hardly turn dark at all regardless of juice type. Nic certainly has something to do with it.
I agree the nic is the real culprit here. I mixed some zero nic custard for a friend at the same time I mixed my regular custard w/nic. Even after a few hours you could tell a difference. I steep in an ultra sonic, so maybe I see the results a little quicker than some, but the Capt. is right on this one.

It must be some sort of interaction between the nic and specific chemicals in the flavorings then. Interesting. Wonder what and why? I don't vape anything sweet and none of my mixes turn brown and I have some 4+ month old stuff on the shelf.
I know CAP apple pie will turn brown in under a month. I'm sure there are plenty of others too.
I found that sweet creamy over flavored mixes turn dark brown over time. I made a 20% cap vanilla custard and cap cake batter that started light yellow and after 2 months was so dark brown you could hardly see through it. If by that time it's not over powering with sweet flavor for you then it's still OK to vape. This I agree is an interaction with the NIC in the mix. For me it was just to sweet and over flavored for my taste.
This in itself makes me wonder if the pre-mix premium juices contain less flavoring and are steeped longer. Otherwise, wouldn't all the custard juices on the B&M shelves be brown and overly sweet?
Not nessessarly. It depends on the brand of flavoring and the specific recipes used. I have many creamy or custard recipes that don't turn dark brown. I think it's due to over flavoring and certain flavorings where NIC is involved. I won't even commit to it only happening with NIC added to a mix as I've only mix using NIC and have no basis for comparison.
All of mine will turn with enough time, but I have never ventured away from the brands I started with for flavors and nic. So I can't say it would be different or not.

Thanks everyone, that's all on target. I'm a noob and the older flavors are overmixed and now oversteeped. And I'm all about the dessert flavors too. Plain fruits are still clear after 5 months on the same shelf. Then again, they don't get opened much at all. Same or higher nic though... but no 0 nic for comparison.

Back in my wife's and my earlier vape days. She picked a commercial juice that well....sounded better than it tasted, I still have it up in the closet and its cough syrup thick and super dark brown. It was 12nic. I don't know why I keep it but that jug was her last choice in juice, after that I did all the picks. I built a 100ml for my wife of desert ship and cotton candy should look a light shade of honey but it turned bright orange within a week...dunno
Yeah seems harmless enough, but since DIY is cheap there's no harm in throwing out something that looks dank. My darkest is also my oldest and highest nic, still hanging around because I don't need it anymore because my vaping habits have changed, as has my hardware. Fun journey.
