Since it's pretty well known that darker liquids tend to cause a cartomizer to not last as long as clearer liquids do .. is there any general rule to think about if you want to stick with clearer liquids and maximize cartomizer life .. ??

Boge 2.0 , 3.0 user ..

Got an order today and one liquid is very very dark brown .. last month, got an order from a different vendor same color .. using these, I can't seem to get more than one / two days out of a carto .. where the clearer liquids I can get at least a week out of a carto ..

Any known vendors that disclose color .. ?? Any tips on extending the life of a carto using dark liquid .. ??

Thanks to any answers ..

To me... since PG, VG and nic are clear, dark color in e-juice represents "extra stuff" and that collects on the coils. Flavorings, and WTA stuff in particular. TA is a culprit too.

I DIY. I know what the flavors are that go into my mix (even if I don't know all the chemicals). As far as extending the life...

with atomizers, you can just blow them out/clean them more frequently. With cartos...although you can clean most of them, they are considered disposable. Gunk is gunk. You can dilute the juice with PG/VG, but it will cut the nic and flavor.

Sugars (like caramel flavors) are the worst! (IMO). I used to make a fantastic RY4ish flavor blend, but quit due to the gunk issues and the fact that it used a caramel flavor that tasted great but probably had sugars in it (not too sure it was good for lungs either!).

As far as vendors go, IDK other than DIY shops... but that's a good place to start if you want to see some flavor base colors for your research. You'll seldom, if ever, know what goes into a vendors recipe though. Even if you get ingredients listed, you won't be able to judge quantities so meh. There is no "clogability index" for e-juice.

I really hate this fact. I really like my ry4 and the carto only lasts a day or two as well. I thought it was only me. I use unflavored a lot and I love the carto life. I think I may just stick with clearer juices here on out for the most part and use the ry4 for a treat every now and again. I just got some DYI supplies with some double RY4 flavoring. The funny thing is that the ry4 flavoring is a light yellow color which I am hoping will keep my cartos lasting longer.

Well guys, as with all things e-juice, YMMV.

My DIY RY4 had caramel flavoring. That said, I also have another "RY4 type flavor" flavoring from a vendor that is clear...but it doesn't taste remotely like RY4 to me. It even has some menthol background or something in it. :(

This may vary quite a bit between vendors (as will flavor). To me, RY4 tastes like caramel, Bavarian creme (which has caramelized flavor too I think), peanut, vanilla, maybe a touch of pecan. Anyway, that's how I made it, more or less.

I DIY my own juice, and I do try to stick with clear(ish) flavorings. Dark flavorings are not the only thing that gunks up coils, but they are usually a big culprit. Many people say that VG does more than PG, but I only use VG, so I don't know. Sweeteners and sour additives have been implicated by some, too.

My method of dealing with the dark liquids that I like is to use them on something that can be cleaned and dry burned easily, like a bridge-less atty or CE2 clearomizer, but that's only with reasonable ones. I did a homemade coffee extraction that would choke out a CE2 in a couple of hours at 5% flavoring, and ended up tossing that because it was too much trouble.
