Hey guys,

I had a leak in my mechanical squonker and i noticed my new VTC6 turned darker green over half of it. Now the colour has become more unanimous but with dark spots here & there, is this dangerous should i get rid of the battery?

It's probably juice under the wrap that's causing the color change. As Steves45 suggested, re-wrap it. Your local vape store should have some heat shrink wraps.

Those wrappers discolor like that over time. Here's a thread about if from a few years back. My bet is your battery was already discolored before the leak and you just noticed it after inspecting it critically.

I've bathed some of my batts in juice over the years and never had any problems with them. Can't say the same for one mod though :(. The wrappers are heat shrunk on them tight, and I've never had juice get in there. I posted a couple of pics of MNKE batts that exhibited the same thing after taking the wrappers off here. There was no juice under the wrapper.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for the replies. been using the vtc6 only in regulated mods recently. I finally got around to purchasing some wraps, now here is what the battery looks like naked... is this bad?

Are those darkened areas from the spill, do you think? They look like droplets. I would try wiping it down with rubbing alcohol to see what lifts off?

I dropped a battery into a coffee cup due to a battery door opening... I haven't taken it apart yet but the coffee was tepid, I got it out of there immediately, I haven't re-wrapped mine yet but I took off the wrap and cleaned it with alcohol (as this forum suggested). It looks pretty okay, there's no scratches, dings, etc. I have not shrink-wrapped my new cover on there yet, as I'm not sure I want to use it, even though batteries do get bathed in e-juice and whatnot all the time. :) Coffee not so much.

I really couldn't say one way or another, but I'm sure those with more battery experience will come along and let you know. I just bought batteries with one extra unmarried pair so that if I want to, I can just junk it :) It's always a hard call with batteries, that's why I'd rather leave your answer to the more expert :)

Good luck!

Ooh... didn't notice that. I'm not sure if I'd personally want to use that. It looks almost like something from the battery is leaking out the top? I wouldn't, but again, I'm a bit paranoid about batteries, honestly. Unless it's baked on e-juice, in which case wiping it down with alcohol to see if it lifts up might be a useful endeavor....

A bit of vinegar is generally enough to remove rust like that. Dip the cell in it or rub it with vinegar soaked cotton, be a bit patient as it won't come out inmediately. Then bath it in alcohol, and maybe some fuel. After this, a rewrap and it should look nearly pristine.
Don't freak like that for a bit of rust, the cylindrical cell case is made of some sort of steel alloy but of course depending how you treat it some oxidation can happen. I have an aggressive soldering flux (good for steel) which causes rusting with ease if you don't fully clean it.

A quick cell capacity check will reveal if it still is in good condition.

Cheers :)
