I have been reading and searching and have done nothing but confuse myself. I decided to try and find an alternative to smoking for my wife and myself and thought I would try the world of e-cigs. I bought one of the disposables at the gas station, a 21st Century - it is HORRIBLE! When I take a drag, I feel no restriction at all and it like almost sucking threw a straw... the taste, far from "menthol", it taste like spirimint... and for the feeling in my throat, I feel as if I was breathing cold air... I have no sensation that I took a drag of a cigarette. As a matter of fact, I think I would be better off chewing spirimint gum and sucking on the end of a pen.

I know this isn't normal, but I am hesitant to really spend $$$ on something that won't work. Can someone please give me suggestions on a cigarette that will have the feel of pulling a drag through a filter, like an analog, the taste of a Camel Light &/or Marlboro, and the throat hit of an analog cigarette.

I don't know if I should go with cartomizer's or atty's.

I am looking at Vapor4Life's VaporKing with the Kamel cartomizer's... just not sure how they match up the the real thing... don't want to be sucking air like I am now

Thanks,
Jon

Hello and welcome.
Unfortunely, some of those gas station, kiosk at the mall, etc...type of ecigs are a big disappointment.
V4life is one of the favs here at ecf....so is the Joye 510 and eGo.....much cheaper, better quality and much better everything. No one wants to suck air, so I don't blame you for being that way......
But ecigs do work, but it is a process,
you can also look at Liberty-flights.com they offer a variety of different ecigs and are modestly priced, but quality....
If you want convenience, you should either go with pre-filled cartomizers, or get some blank ones and fill yourself with ejuice from a quality vendor,. At the top of this page is a link for suppliers that registered with ecf....have a look
And come back with questions, if you have any

KR808D-1 (VaporKing) and Joye 510 are good for a 1 pack a day or less smoker. A big battery model (the size of a sharpie) is preferred by most who smoked more than a pack a day. A big battery model also allows for Low Resistance (LR) atomizers and cartomizers, low resistance delivers more flavor and hotter vapor.
The drag on an e-cig is a little different than a cigarette, you want to draw a little slower air flow is important in an e-cig but while you are drawing you can savor the flavor of your juice, vapor isn't dry like smoke either, the warm moist vapor takes a little getting used to but in no time it feels better in the throat than smoke.

Flavor is very subjective and no e-juice tastes just like a cigarette because what you get from a cigarette is burned. But there are many great tobacco flavors that taste just like a freshly opened pack of cigarettes smell.

In time a lot of people move away from tobacco or at least explore other flavors. Imagine waking up in the morning and vaping a blueberry muffin with your coffee or a caramel sundae after a meal, yes there are no calories in vapor so you can indulge in flavors that you would normally avoid if you are watching your waist line.

Bingo! I love how you worded this. I'm looking forward to the many choices we have, mainly bacon LOL!

I was a 1.5-2 pack per day smoker and I do fine on KR808D-1. It's a real 3.7v device and gives a nice warm hit with those Vapor4Life cartos. Some of those V4L flavors may even be a bit strong for starting out but you can always top off the cartos with juice you get elsewhere. The standard batteries are 280mah so as long as you have access to charging power during the day and a PCC when you are out you should not run out of charged batteries.

I can get 4-7 days use out of a Vapor4Life carto if I keep it damp with juice.

There is a large number of suppliers to choose from. if you want to try to find the cheapest ones (these are just from what I've found) check out liberty flights but be sure to use the 20% off code. or you could try hoosier they have good priced 510 starter kits and the epower.

+1
I bought a RIVA 510 from libertyflights and a 1100 mAh eGo from hoorsierecigsupply. Both were great, and the cheapest around. Use ecf15 for 15% off at hoosiers and 20% off button at top of page for liberty. 510 is a common size thread (you can get anything to fit them).

As for juice, everybody (myself included) tries to find their cigarette flavor when starting. I suggest trying something you like the smell and taste of. Vanilla, cherry coke, apple pie, whatever. then go to a highly rated vendor of juice. Kickbassvapors and Goodejuice are in Illinois area and very good. Backwoodsbrew and Alien Visions are also way high rated.

Order small amounts of quality juice until you find what you like. You can drop it into an atomizer, or fill a cartomizer. There are great tutorials in this forum.

The way I started was figuring one month's cigarette money, and not going over. I spent less than two weeks money so far (wife and myself combined).

Hi, welcome to ECF.
I got my starter kit at Vapor 4 Life and wasn't disappointed. I also ordered everything menthol. The problem with that is that's what you get, menthol, NOT menthol tobacco. My first 3 weeks of vaping was like puffing on breath mints all day. It gets old fast. Look for juice/cartos that specifically say "menthol tobacco" or buy a bottle of tobacco juice and a bottle of menthol. Add a few drops of menthol to the tobacco.
The "Vapor King" is a kr808D-1. It uses cartomizers. If you go with that you can still use 901 atomizers. I use atomizers on my 808 to test new juices. No wasted cartomizers on juice I don't like.
Vaping is great but it can take a bit of trial and error to find what works best for you. :thumb:

p.s Use the coupon code ECF if you order from V4L. Should get you 10% off. Check their section of the forum here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/vapor4life/
They could have other discounts as well.

My best buy on my 2nd order was a V4L passthru. I was always paranoid about dead batts and being without. My job and travel schedule have me in front of a computer (with USB) or in a car (with USB) most of the time and I smack my passthru all day long. Now my batts are for when I am on foot. I've since swithced to 510s and with an adapter from MadVapes I am compatible all around. Vape On!

This comes up all the time... but, unfortunately, the only way to get the taste of burning tobacco is to actually burn tobacco. Like some of the posters above, I eventually gravitated away from the 'baccy flavors. I do seem to remember liking Dekang Turkish-American Blend (aka DK-TAB), since I'd been fond of Camels.

Most "tobacco" flavored juices pretty accurately present tobacco, but the smell of it BEFORE you light it on fire, not AFTER. As such, they can be a little disappointing, but you get used to them. Those disposables you see around... yeah, ick, I agree. Remember, that's the Yugo of ecigs, and who knows how long it's been sitting there? Juice is always better when relatively fresh. Don't be turned off by that thing... believe me, ecigs work. I received & started using my first one on the night of May 2nd, and on the afternoon of the 5th, I gave away the last American Spirit in my pack. The models & suppliers others have listed above are all good, and a good price to boot.

I can personally vouch for the little 510. I have since moved on up through the ego, to mods, to homebuilt box mods, and now saving up for a Precise... but the 510 kept me off the "analogs" for my first 3 months or so. A great introductory ecig. Do be forwarned, that with ANY ecig, you're going to want one full kit per person. A decent kit will have two batteries, minimum; one to vape on while the other is on the charger. If you try to split a kit, you'll be quite frustrated. Good way to start a domestic disturbance, fighting over who gets the only battery with a full charge :)

Good luck. Stick around. Ecigs saved my life, I have no doubt at all... and just about everything I've learned about them I learned here on ECF.

Jon - Alien Visions has a "Gamel" flavor which is a nice dry turkish tobacco kind of thing. You might also like a "555" type flavor, lot of vendors have some version of that.

Hope I am happier the second go-around then the first. Thank you, everyone, for your input. I went with Vapor4Life's 808d-1 (a plain black and a plain white) and got the Wow Vapor 555 Cart (18mg) and the Premium Vapor King Cowboy Menthol CoolCart Cartomizer's.

I used the coupon code "springcleaning" and saved 28%, which came out to $16.65 in savings.

I will post my opinions in a few days when I get them!

Thanks again, everyone.

Jon

Everyone has given really good advice here so I'm just going to add a little. I started out with the kr808d1 battery (vapor4life) and I hated that it did feel very airy like sucking through a straw. I just modified it a little by plugging 2 of the 3 holes in the battery and then it was great. I can not say how a standard 510 battery is on air draw but I can say I just ordered an ego and the air flow is wonderfully perfect. You can adjust the airflow on these a little by using the cone and it makes it a little bit harder draw (which to me feels like a real cigarette). There is a learning curve and to be honest I'm still looking for the perfect juice but I can honestly say to stop smoking and not have all the horrible withdrawls ecigs are the best way to go.
