I've got a whole bunch dead of Mini (901) batteries. Most of them light up when I draw, but don't give any (or much) vapour. Others don't do anything, or are on all the time.

Would a deep-cycle help the first bunch? If so, I'm going to have to make a mass discharge chamber with a tyre pump, a bunch of grommets and a sealed box.

I have also had trouble with the 901, it was the first battery I used. Never had much luck with it. Understand these products do come from china and some are just better made than others. It sounds like the heating circuit in your batteries has gone bad. The light will still come on but there is not electricity being transferred to the cartridge. Wish I had better news for you. I've tried dismantling batteries but it's very difficult to take them apart with out harming the wiring.
