Describe your experience on vaping at public places.

  • I start using it right away without asking anyone and if confronted, tell them to leave me alone.

  • I ask someone if it's ok to smoke my e-cigarette and if told no, get angry and leave.

  • I ask someone if it's ok to smoke my e-cigarette and if not, agree and offer more information.

  • I ask someone if it's ok to use my personal vaporizer and if not, agree and offer more information.

  • I ask someone if it's ok to use my personal vaporizer and it's ok, vape like a madman.

  • I ask someone if it's ok to use my personal vaporizer and it's ok, vape when I need to.

  • I do something completely different.

i vape whenever, and where ever i want; discreetly. i don't believe i've ever been noticed doing it.

i'm not very good at asking permission, and i also hate it, so i don't. i do as i please but i'm not obnoxious about it. if i was asked to stop i'd put it away without incident, but i'd explain what it was just for FYI purposes.

Elle, I'm with you on this just about identical. But if confronted, I just say it's a personal vaporizer and don't really try to explain anything.

This poll FAILS.

There should have been an option below the first one that states...
I start using it right away without asking anyone and if confronted, kindly explain to them exactly what an e-cig is.
Thanks for trying though.

Generally, I just vape where ever I please. If I'm confronted and after given the chance to explain it, if they still want me to stop, I usually do. At a bar or somesuch, I just won't go there again. So far, most places leave off after explaining to them the basics.

Hard to think of everything. Really I was hoping that the "Hey it's my right and I'm not doing anything wrong so buzz off" vapers might see this poll and tone it down a little.

Catch more flies with sugar than vinegar, oh so I hear.

But to each their own. I will try and do better next time.

Well, it's hard to honestly (and correctly) answer a poll that was biased to begin with, yo.

The poll shows your bias extremely well. Obviously you take offense to people not asking permission prior to vaping. I don’t think this will dissuade people who think they are doing nothing wrong. Not asking permission is not equal to someone being rude or inappropriate.

I dont ask first because it requires finding the proper person to ask, giving an explanation and demonstration, and then hoping they wont immediately say, "no" when you are asking them, in their mind, to break the rules. Whereas if you simply use it without being super-obvious about it, they will usually leave you alone (from my experience), especially if you have one that has an led that's not orange or red. No muss, no fuss.

I am probably one of those people you would consider to be in the "Hey it's my right and I'm not doing anything wrong so buzz off" crowd but I think you are making a gross oversimplification.

It is not like I do that everywhere I go. For the most part I am very polite and explain it if confronted. In my experience, once people hear it is something I am doing to keep from smoking they change their tune.

HOWEVER there is the occasional individual that refuses to listen and I have a 'routine' that I deliver to them. I actually found this 'line of defense' on this forum but I do not recall who to credit and doubt I will ever be able to find the thread again.

If someone is unwilling to listen what I do is put on my most annoyed voice and declare " I smoked cigarettes for 25 years and finally quite because the rampant harassment, so now I breathe in some flavored steam and THAT TOO IS GOING TO OFFEND YOU??? well sorry you are offended but I am doing nothing wrong and if you don't like it please exercise your right to leave but by all means do NOT harass me again please.

Not wishing to cause offense to anyone, I really am just interested, but to all of those who just vape away without asking permission first, would you do the same if you were visiting someone's house for the first time?
Yes I do but I pretend like I didn't even realize I was doing it then say 'sorry it has become force of habit again since I can do it without hurting the health of those around me.

@kyle82 - when did this become about smoking? Assuming youre not simply posting in in order to spam (but it does look that way by looking at the link in your siggy area), this is about using electric cigarettes to inhale vapor created by heating propylene glycol mixed with nicotine, which is totally different and is NOT smoking.

It depends on the confrontation mood...

DSE-901 {Black with a blue-LED}

If they point and squack... I return the rudeness if approached in a negative tone. My usual reply is that I am using a vaporizer. If further poking is done... I tell them it is for something that is none of their business... If they "Claim", it is a cigarette device, or that I am smoking, I ask them to show me the smoke-alarm that alerted them of the contents within my vapor that is emanating from my mouth... If further persistence to harass me for exhaling vapor continues... I inform them that the vapor and noise pollution emanating out of their mouth is disturbing my peace, and demand they remove themselves from my personal space. (Ok, that only happened once.)

Usually, I have no bad confrontations. Mostly curious or silent gestures.

I don't have time to explain my actions to others, or to go into great detail about what I am puffing on. Just as I don't normally have time to ask for permission, to do something which does not demand permission to be asked.

Until a study shows that these things emanate a potentially dangerous level of anything, to surrounding occupants... There is nothing they, or I, am required to do.

The 0.001ml of evaporated moisture is 1/1000 of what I will emanate in normal breathing, within most of my stay at any location. The contents of that 0.001ml exhaled, are lower than the contents eaten or worn by most of the individuals surrounding me.

Toss them a chocolate candy, or slice of bread... Tell them that is what is inside the vaporizer, minus the sugar, minerals, starch, dyes, and add 0.007mg of nicotine.

7mg/ml divided by 20 cigs = 0.35mg (0.05ml)
0.35mg (0.05ml) divided by 10 puffs = 0.035mg (0.005ml)
Absorbed is roughly 80% = Exhaled 0.007mg (0.001ml)

Now turn around and eat your colon-cancer salad, with your 1200 calorie dressing. (Scientific babble approach.)

Tell them it is an anti-inflammatory, made to reduce the harm that is inflicted to nosy people who ask too many questions. (Tough guy approach.)

Tell them it is swine-flu suppression agent, issued by the government, for the recent outbreak... Why... Didn't you get one in the mail? (Stupid person test.)

Tell them it is a ritualistic part of a new religious cult that you joined. You use it to suppress daemons that approach unexpectedly... but you are thinking of getting your money back, because it doesn't seem to be working. (Suggesting they are the daemon you are trying to suppress.)

Tell them you are from the planet Luxor, and you require your portable atmosphere conditioner, so you can live here on this planet, without being detected. (A little dumb-irony.)

Elle, I found myself feeling exactly the same way. With that said, I just got back from a week in Disney World. I managed to vape discreetly in the airport, on the plane, in our room, and throughout all of the parks with not one raised eyebrow. I used the "hold the vapor in as long as I could" method when in questionable places and covered the LED with a cupped hand. I should probably add that I was using a black 901 so I likely appeared to have a fetish for sucking on pens. :p

My checked luggage was "randomly" searched by TSA but nothing was confiscated... so it could have been random. Return flights, no issues at all.

I generally try to be non-confrontational about it. It's still too new for the comman person on the street to understand what's going on. Add to that the cigarette-like appearance of the 4081s and confusion could ensue. I have a passive way I go about using it that makes it clear that I'm not smoking an analog. I twirl it in my fingers between puffs, including idly tapping the "cherry".

There is ONE instance where I've premeditated whipping out the horns and fangs, but it hasn't happened yet. Do any of you recall, from your analog days, that one obnoxious guy or girl who would see you smoking from a mile away and proceed to put on the most over the top faked coughing fit? I'm waiting for that. This is the one instance where I will go out of my way and do whatever it takes to publically expose this person for the complete jackass he or she is. I just haven't had that experience yet. I hope I never do, but the Boy Scout in me believes one should "Always be prepared".
