I don't really know. Nicotine does constrict the smallest blood vessels, and diabetes does decrease circulation of the same, so I think you should continue to consider the possibility. Now, I doubt the 5 cigarettes a day would have any effect. I also doubt any vaping that is even approximately similar in dosage would have any effect.

I'm giving pure opinion, and if I were in your position re the retinopathology, I like to think I would drop all nicotine use just as a caution. I have type II, and consider the switch to vaping to be a total positive, but I am also not showing signs of complications as of yet.

I've had type 1 diabetes for 22 years, and during my latest eye exam showed the beginnings of retinopathy. I recently switched over to vaping from smoking about 5 cigs per day since some info online suggests that tobacco could accelerate the disease. Is there any correlation between pure nicotine and the progression of retinopathy?

That is a question BEST left to an expert, rather than a forum I would think, try asking a Endocrinologist in a formal setting. With Type 1 for that long, I suspect you've seen plenty of Endocrinologists. Or, you could always try "Cinnamon" like the purveyors of it on the internet would have you believe as a cure for diabetes. ;-)
