After watching the rebuild video I decided to take mine all the way apart, even though I don't have a rebuild kit. Instead of snapping off the bottom part of the pin I grabbed it with pliers and unscrewed from the top.i had some brass shim stock handy so I decided to make a brass firing pin. Some tin snips, a drill bit and piece of heat shrink tubing later I was ready to put it all back together and give it a try. First try, the bent point that hits the batt was too long so it wanted to fire constantly. Took it apart and did some more snipping and reassembled. Too short, won't fire! Third try really is a charm, got it together and it's hitting like a champ. It's surprising how little difference there is between too short and too long, it really has to be just right. Pretty clever engineering, precise and simple. I'm gonna leave the brass piece in for a while and see how it holds up. It's quite a bit less springy compared to the SS piece and it might be too soft to last very long. Also it's thinner I think it was .009" I used. I'll be ordering a kit along with my RM2 soon. 8)

Well I was getting misfires with the SS. A quick file would fix it but it didn't last long. I was afraid I'd have the point gone in short order at the rate I was going so decided to have a closer look at what was really going on. The original pin got mashed when I let a guy at work try it out. He pressed it so hard I had to remove the derlin cap and reinstall. I could have just straightened the point but I wanted to experiment. It seems to be hitting harder, but hard to tell. My mangled point could have been causing bad contact rather than the SS.
