Did I buy the right cotton for wicking material for my viva nova?

so I purchased a couple viva novas with the intention of rebuilding them. I bought kanthal a1 33ga coil wire off of ebay, and purchased some cotton for wicks from walmart a minute ago. I didn't know which to buy, so I just bought two different types to hopefully save me a trip back.

The first type is a type of yarn, size 4-medium. It says it is 100%Usa grown cotton.

The second is a type of crochet thread. It is size 3, and it says that it is 100% mercerized cotton.

Both of them are white, but don't mention if they are undyed.

I was hoping I could get some guidance for which one would work better, and more importantly, if they are safe to use.

Hmmm i should go buy some. I was debating if i should go buy that yarn gauze or cheesecloth. people are saying cheesecloth and gauze are working really well.
