So I got 2 VV tanks in vape mail Thursday. Following Baditude's instructions I set them up without any issues. Today both need to be filled so I feel both of them. 1 is fine & the 2nd one doesn't taste right. It doesn't taste burnt but its just not right. The draw is really tight & gives off very little vapor. Did I screw it all the way up somehow or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sidenote...has anyone tried any of the J-tanks from ElectronicStix?

I'd say if it looked dry at the top it might need to be primed more but if it doesn't taste burnt it should at least have some liquid getting to the coil. Maybe the carto is screwed on to the battery too tight and it isn't able to pull enough air? Or could just be a bad carto.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I am still a bit of a rookie.

Thanks! You're wayyyyy more experienced than me!! Ill play around with it & see if adding more juice to the carto works. Thanks again!

Hi Chimney! Sorry your having an issue with one of the tanks. It definitely sounds like a carto issue.

The filler at the top of the carto is always going to look dry after vaping on it a few times, this is normal and to be expected. As you vape, juice gets pulled down to the bottom of the carto where the heating coil is. Even a tank that is supplying plenty of juice to the carto won't replenish the top part of the filler.

Cartomizer Anatomy.jpg Cutaway diagram of the air and juice flow in a carto in a cartotank.

Since you are experiencing a burnt taste when vaping on the re-filled tank, the filler material in the carto sounds like it burnt, and is ruined. I recommend that you empty the tank of it's remaining juice (it is ok, it didn't get burnt, just the cartomizer did) and start over with a fresh cartomizer. You can use the previous juice in the new tank setup.

I usually "top off" my cartomizer when re-filling my tank. Just stick another tooth pick into the air hole of the carto after refilling the tank, and top off the filler as you do when pre-filling it for the tank.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, all cartotankers go through a learning curve at first. I know I did. It's hard to tell what actually happened with the carto in the second tank, as it sounds like the first one went through the re-filling process without an incident. I doubt that you did anything different between the two tanks.

Might be a difference in how the two juices were wicked; are they different in PG/VG ratio? How many holes are in your carts?
Your vaping technique might need to be adjusted slightly. Only learned through experience with your particular carto's used and juices you use. Generally a gentle, consistant 3-6 second draw works best for me, allowing the juice from the tank to replenish the cartomizer without flooding or drying it out.

I have the 2 hole boges from valley vapes. I had Ray pre punch them for me as well...don't think I'm ready for that yet. The one that went bad had a 70/30 mix & the other has a 50/50 mix. The one that went bad also had a darker juice in it while the other is light & clear. I'm working on my draw as well as I sometimes tend to be a chain vaper. I see that doesn't work as well with the carto tanks since they need time to have new juice work its way through.

Also after ikenvape who do you reccomend next in line for cartos? Valley Vapes has a 2-3 week processing time posted right now. :censored:

I'm currently using Ikenvape Mega Platinum punched and the new Ikenvape 510 Mega Fusion punched. I've not noticed any difference between the two.

Prior to the Ikenvapes I used Smoktek single coil 3.0 ohm with 2 holes laser-drilled from here:Single Coil XL Tank Cartomizer for the SmokTank XL

But the above are XL carts; it sounds like you are using 35mm standard size?

If you can't get the Ikenvapes punched in a standard size, I'd recommend the Boges from ElectronicStix.Com · Single Boge 510 Blank Laser Punched Cartomizer For Tank Systems

The links are in my blog if you ever need them again.

I've seen those anodized aluminum cap tanks with the pyrex glass. They look sharp. With over 20 tanks now, I'm successfully holding back buying more tanks for a good while. The smaller-sized IBTanks are more pratical for my vaping needs now as I'm using the smaller mods recently and they fit easily in my tank carrying case.

Yes they are beautiful but as usual everything I want is sold out right now! Story of my life! Lol! The one I love on phianic is sold! And then IBTanked is out of acrylic end caps I want to build my tank! I just can't win!! I have my eye on a couple at Hooiser but I want to see what my purple Provari looks like in person so I can match it up. I guess I'll have to be patient & make due for now. What am I talking about...I don't need to buy anything else but I know I will!! Ill try to pace myself & since I should be stocked up on liquid for a while ill try to limit myself to one new tank a month. It's easy to see why you have such a huge collection. Even if they look kind of simple it's just something about them that just makes you want it & then when I see them on different mods they don't look so simple after all but just plain gorgeous! I'm jealous!!! Lol!
