OK thanks..... Now on that note Sthur, what is with the whole bridge part. I noticed exposed, bridgeless, etc....

Way back in the day... You used a cartridge with poyfill in it with an atty. The mesh bridge inside the atty transferred liquid from the polyfill to the atty by the mesh bridge coming into contact with the polyfill in the cartridge.

Some people are sold on the idea that removing the mesh bridge makes a big difference in flavor. (I'm not convinced. I have had both crappy and good bridgeless, depending on how they are built.) You could also argue that removal of the mesh bridge means you have to drip a lot more often, since that mesh material is no longer in there to transfer liquid to the wick and coil in the atty. Even without using a cartridge the mesh bridge still serves a purpose.

The threading used is the same.

The difference is the diameter of the atty body and how the drip tip fits onto it. With a 510 the drip tip fits into the body of the atty, on a 306 the drip tip slides over the body of atty.

so is 306 really about the drip tip and not the atty? the 306 drip tip slides on the outside of the 510 atty?

This should clear things up...
E-Cigarette Atomizer Types - eCig One

There are pictures of both 306 and 510 atomizers on that page.

Other than that, what Rickajho said.

I've never removed my bridge, because there simply doesn't seem to be any good reason to do so.
Not to say I haven't heard of reasons to do so, just that I don't think they are good reasons.
:)

I use a 510 atomizer.
Many use a 306 atomizer.

You can get pros and cons for each.
But as far as I'm concerned, putting a drip tip on a 306 atomizer is a losing effort.

On the most gross level - yes. Drip tips or ye olde cartridges fit into a 510 atty and fit over a 306 atty. Why? China has always had a penchant for making e-cig things different, just for the sake of making them different - and incompatible. At the time, the difference between the two designs was more about the cartridge and how it fed liquid to the atty more than anything else.

But when bridgless 510 attys for dripping purposes became the Next Coolest Thing there were several attempts to reinvent the wheel as far as the design of the coil, wick and even the ceramic cup holding the wick and coil goes. Some even retain a scaled down portion of the mesh used in a regular bridge. I have seen some that had a "figure 8" wick tucked into channels in the ceramic cup designed to hold the wick - and more liquid in the process. And others that are no more than a standard coil with a tiny piece of silica wick stuck into it.

I don't believe bridgeless 306 ever happened, because there are a lot of reasons why it wouldn't serve the purpose as well as a bridgeless 510. (Including DC2's comment about the drip tip...)
