Different ways to vape

I haven't received my e-cig yet, but while trying to figure out which e-cig to purchase I noticed all of the different ways to vape like with cartridges, drip tips, cartomizers, tanks etc. I am obviously pretty "green" to all of this, so it's all pretty confusing/overwhelming to me. So I'm just curious what all of these different ways to vape have to offer and why people prefer one way to another, etc. Thanks!

Let me try to answer this as a fellow noob.
I started using the usual carts that came with the e-cig and was fine with it if not for the filler and the 'chore' of cleaning the carts, fillers, etc...Not that bad actually but I personally felt there was a better way to vape.

Then, I decided to check out dripping and I found the experience much better...easier maintenance, slightly fuller flavors. Just drip 2-3 drips and you're good to go. You just have to worry about cleaning yr atty. that's all.
I will be checking out the 1.8ml Clearomizers XL in the near future.

The choice is yours, my friend.

See, this is what I mean...what is a clearomizer?? lol There are just so many different things to add to the e-cig, it blows my mind! I realize that I just need to jump in and start vaping and I'm sure it will all start to make more sense! Fortunately, I think my e-cig will arrive tomorrow and then I can vape-on! Thanks for the info :)

Pretty much the same experience.

Started with the el-cheapo (but expensivo) cigarette look-alike, then quickly transitioned to a real manual battery model, with atomizer and carts.

Then on to the cartomizers, which worked well (I probably didn't replace them as often as I should have, which led to some real funky flavor sensations...), and next I tried the CE2 ceramic cartomizers, quickly followed by the clear cartomizers, e.g. clearomizer (which are awesome, but seem to crack and leak sooner or later...)

Now I'm using an ego-T model, and enjoying it with few of the problems I've heard reported, other than "fragile battery symptom", i.e. I dropped it, it stopped working, I have to do without... :(

And through it all, I'm still reading the forums, looking for the next great vape. So hang out, be confused, spend some money - it still beats the snot out of smoking...

Okay, this is what I know so far. (I think.)

A three-piece PV has a battery, an atomizer, a cartridge which holds e-juice.

A cartomizer is an atomizer with a built-in cartridge. Some are marketed as throw-aways, but, as vapers are a very frugal and inventive lot, the cap at the top can be prised off with a paperclip and the cartomizer can be refilled until the fiber inside is done-for. From what I've read, this becomes rather apparent.

A clear-o-mizer is a cartomizer (atomizer/cartridge combo), but has a little window that indicates just how full that cartomizer is so that you don't dry it out, which is also an unpleasant experience, I gather.

The Tank (eGo-T and Inferno-T) consists of a special atomizer that has a piece much like a hollow needle inside that holds a wick. A mouthpiece, shaped like the end of Grandpa's old cigars with the plastic tip (called a "whistle tip") is inserted into the atomizer, and the needle-like piece punctures the cap at the wide end of the mouthpiece and allows the juice (with which you've filled the tank with e-juice by popping the cap off and then on again), to wick down into the atomizer.

I started with the standard 3-piece, then switched to the tank system (compatible with a 510 battery) because, having parrots, I didn't want to be handling nicotine juice and accidentally poisoning them through skin contact. It allows me to have as little contact with the e-juice as possible.

I have no idea what the screwdrivers are about (batteries and voltage?), nor the juice boxes (non-stop juice drop?), nor am I particularly inclined to link a car battery to a 100 gallon drum in order to have an Alice In Wonderland caterpillar-esque vaping experience. (I just made up the latter. I hope.)

That's about all I know. Well, I may know a little more, but my husband's a Freemason and some things just can't be repeated. I'm sure you understand. *winkwink*

Well, not exactly: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/freedom-smoke-usa/140218-ultimate-mod-fsusa-juice.html#post2230123

Seriously, trying different atty, carto, juice systems, at different resistances gives each vaper a chance to find what suits them, and everyone has different tastes. If everyone liked the same, there would only have to be one brand of analogs also.

@ Meghanesque - I wasn't trying to be patronizing! Now you know what I sound like when I talk to myself. LOL! :)

@ Stosh - WICKED! I love it! Call it "The Caterpillar". It's a shame my dad is no longer on our plane of existence. He made a baby monitor 20 years before they came out, and a digital clock (with dual digital alarms) WAY before they were marketed. My dad could have had you hooked up to a mega-mod in a week and you'd be lost in a cloud o'vapor, never to be seen again. Maybe a Borg Version. Hehehehe!

I did a lot of research and finally ended up just getting your standard automatic e-cig kit from V4L. I've read a lot on here about how supposedly the automatics malfunction, have less battery life, etc., but I'm happy with mine so far. I definitely don't plan to become a hobbyist. I'm using this as a healthier alternative to smoking, and that's it.

I've become quite fond of using LR 801 atomizers at 3.7V on my mods. I drip about 95-98% of the time and use cartos when I can't drip. So, I just gave you another way to vape and I'll apologize if this has added to your confusion. I prefer dripping and using LR 801s because the juice tastes better, the vapor is warmer and more dense, and I waste very little juice. I use cartos because I prefer vaping using my mods and carts aren't recommended for use with LR atties. They're hotter and carts can't wick fast enough to keep the atty wet. I was never really that fond of carts to begin with, anyway.

All manual batteries for me.

Started with M401 (a weak but tasty PV with annoying tiny carts) - has atty and carts. Improved it by cutting blue foam for the carts. Cartomizers were not very available for my first ecig. And dripping was not possible (external atty, open hole in the end of even the manual batteries, no drip tips available)

Got a cartomizer model of PV (KR808D-1 from Vapor4Life). I enjoyed not having to add juice as often, not dealing with slipping cart stuffing, etc.

Tried dripping by adding a DSE901 atty and drip tip to the 2-piece KR8 model - was interesting and too much dripping for me.

Had gotten a 510 and but not a Joye and it came with the wrong carts and a substandard atty. I was not using it. But then I bought some blank cartos for it and loved it. So now I am using both my KR8 and the 510 with cartos. Occasionally I also use a Joye 306 atty and 306 carts on it (w/ blue foam mod) and I did buy a drip tip for the 306 atty for next time I need to try a bunch of samples.
