It is not necessary to drip directly onto the bridge. The only purpose of the bridge is to wick fluid from the cart filler down to the nickel foam that's under the ceramic cup. If you are not using a cart with filler the bridge becomes completely obsolete. When you drip you can pretty much put the drops anywhere in the atty barrel (no need to aim for the bridge).
I guess what I'm saying is, the pen grip is a good way to not get hot lips from tailpiping, but using the pen tip or pipette for aiming is unnecessary.
Back when I was dripping (before I got tired of having to add drops every 5 minutes), I took the pen grip and just cut about a half inch of it off and stuck that on the atty. This still gave a little insulation for the lips, but made the overall length of the PV a little less, and it still had some rigidity in the mouth. I was always mashing the full length pen grip when I put it in my mouth.
