So I tried cleaning my 2 510 atty's for the first time... I threw them in some boiling water for a while and dried them. One works like brand new and the other... well... it tastes like .... I don't know what happened, but it tastes worse than it did before! I took that atty and put it in some hydrogen peroxide, blew out the batt end, then even dunked it in some diet coca cola, blew out again, and then back into the boiling water, blew out, and dried. Still, .... Like burning turd. Is all lost on this?

YouTube - How to remove your Wick (Mod)

Check out this link. I had an atty do the same thing, and when I removed this little wick just like in the video, it was all burnt and scortched, and it smelled just like the burnt smoke. I cleaned it again and it worked great. Now for some reason I have another one that had the wick removed taste the same way you describe, and it puzzles me. you have nothing to lose IMO by following the video on this one. I did this to all my attys and they all taste much better and dont scortch the wick when getting a little dry. It just has a metallic taste when low on juice.

I took the wick out, and it was all burnt and gross! I'm sure that's the source of the problem. When I took it out, I still see pieces that I can't get to with a toothpick because it practically burnt right onto the coil. Gross, and still tastes nasty.

Thanks for that advice though. It seems to be the solution (although it didn't completely work for me)

I use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them out. Sometimes they come out 1 thread at a time, other times all come out mostly at once. I do find that there are stragglers left that are hard to get, just stay at it. Just make sure its the wick, and not a thread of the metal bridge protruding. This tip worked wonders for me. next I plan to tackle removing the bridge (by the same guy that made the video above)

I use a little sonicator my wife got from Amazon.com for cleaning jewlery (the kind with heat). For Cartoz, I put them in a small glass (actual glass) of cheap vodka, and place that in the sonicator for 3-4 cycles, that even gets the menthol smell out (if a menthol juice was used in that batch). Plus the whole process is very gentle on equipment. I also de-wick my atty's.

Works for me anyway

First make sure you have a spare atty!! :)

Then remove the wick and the bridge, extra metal mesh, jsut be
very careful not to distrub the coil. You can then do a careful dry
burn, clean the heck out of the atty.....and become a dripper!! :vapor:

I've tried all methods of cleaning but once my attys burned the wick,
nothing seemed to help short of removing all the offending (burnt)
pieces and parts. YMMV Fair warning, if you do remove everything
and start dripping you may find it difficult to go back to carts or cartos.

+++++++1 on this. Good advise. Nothing like a nuetered atty for a dripping machine.

I have found that chocolate flavored ejuices will cause the "burnt ..." taste if they burn onto the atomizer. The only thing I have found to work is a hot water bath, a few blasts of 90% isopropyl from a syringe onto the the atty to loosen the burned on gunk. I then lightly scrape the coils with the tip of a bent paper clip and follow that with a hot water rinse and a dry burn to burn off the remaining gunk. Voila! No more "burnt ..." taste.
