I was just searching around the web for some DIY supplies and happened upon Heaven Gifts. Took a look around and noticed they had some pretty good prices on some items I was searching for. When I first visit a site, I usually check out what the shipping charges are; so I put a few items in the cart and was required to log in/register to go to the checkout and check the shipping prices. ***NOTE*** I had never been to this site before. So I proceeded to register and entered my email address and a password. I got a notice saying, "an account with this email address already exists." Hmmmmm, I didn't remember ever visiting this site before so I checked my web browser history as far back as a month before I even started vaping. Nothing about this site in my browser history. So I put in my email address and entered one of my passwords and to my amazement..."Welcome DoctorJ":blink::blink: Ohhhhh-Kay. I checked the profile information and it had all of my info except one thing was incorrect, my birth date. It had it listed as 12/05/12. I obviously knew that was incorrect because I am quite sure that I am not 9 weeks old! I sent the vendor a request to close that account as I did not open it myself. So I went back to my browser history and noted all of the vaping vendors I had dealt with and changed my PW on those sites. I then went back to Heaven Gifts and noticed the company is of Chinese origin. I immediately checked all of my banking records to make sure there were no unauthorized transactions, fortunately there weren't any. I always make sure none of my financial information is left on any of the vendor sites I deal with. I always say no when asked to save it.

This really freaked me out to the point that I changed every PW on every site that I do business with and emailed my bank to notify them of a possible compromise to my financial information.

I think tomorrow I will close the email account this was registered to just in case.

I had a similar experience with a Chinese vendor before (non vaping related). After dealing with the vendor, I had 3 unauthorized charges from various places. Fortunately I have a great bank that cleared everything up with one call. Had to change my account number, etc. All of the vendors I have dealt with for my vaping needs thus far are all in the US. None of them I know of has any connections to China.

The only thing I can think of to explain this is one of the vendors I have dealt with or are registered to has been hacked. But maybe my email was hacked. I don't think so, but who knows.

Has anyone else ever had an experience like this before with a vaping vendor? Are there any vendors out there I should be wary of or totally avoid?

It is highly unlikely that a vendor, even an unscrupulous one, would go through the trouble of setting up an account, complete with a valid password. If they were planning something shady, why set a password you'd know? That doesn't make much sense.

I'd say it's much more likely that you've done business with them before, maybe under a different name. If I were to guess when, I'd put it at nine weeks ago.

Honestly, I wouldn't sweat it. It sounds like the registration page has a bug -- they probably entered your new login and then checked for its existence after the fact. You can test it by setting up a new email account and registering again with that. I bet you get the same error.
I've had the exact same experience but not by this vendor, a European one instead. I went through the same thought processes as the OP, got really worried and thinking how in the world am I going to explain this to my Husband, he did what Canospam suggested and it was just a login glitch. Thank the Lord, 'cause I really hate getting the lectures...

MYSTERY SOLVED!!! smiley-dance004.gif

I thought a bit more about what Trick said and checked my laptop which I hardly ever use for anything other than work and VIOLA! Apparently I did register an account on Xmas eve. I remember now taking my laptop to my in-laws for Xmas eve festivities with the thought of doing some work related stuff. Instead of working, I ended up surfing vaping sites as is evident by the browser history on my laptop.

Oh well, I at least changed my PW's a few weeks early and know that my email account is safe. Also my bank is on high alert for any fraudulent charges. smiley-laughing014.gif

Shame on you :(! What a ridiculous story! Heaven's Gifts is one of the first ecig vendors from the beginning of Vaping. I have shopped there many times over the years. They are a safe and reputable company. You obviously opened an account there yourself and forgot about it.

Just by the way, I have been forced to open an account with many US vendors BEFORE I am able to add things to my shopping basket, only to see that many they don't ship international once I want to Check out. (Ie. ONLY US and Canada in the country drop down menu ). This really is upsetting, since all countries are in the drop down menu when I have to create an account give all my personal details and address, plus they 'say' that they ship international. Which I obviously check for prior to trying to shop here!

I suppose for some people there are only two countries in the world. The US and Canada lol. Oh, and now they send me junk mail!

Shame on me for what??? It was an honest mistake! I never accused HG of any wrong doing or any other vendor. Yes I registered an account and forgot about it...your point is...? I did some research on HG after I discovered this account and found no negative posts anywhere about them. Actually found quite a few posts that they are a reputable company.

Not my fault you are in a country where vendors won't ship to. I don't make their rules! If you have a problem with where vendors ship to, then take it up with them, not me.

And FYI, I lived in Japan for 2 years teaching for the AEON Corp. I ran into the same problem of some online vendors not shipping to Japan. I had to have items shipped to a friend in the US and then have him ship them to me. Also, if you don't want the junk mail from vendors you registered with, opt out or block them.

Yah, I'm not really seeing the shame in this. Being overly paranoid about online security is almost never paranoid enough. The good doctor didn't badmouth anyone, they were just a bit freaked, took some basic online precautions and shared their experiences. Maybe I'm missing something though.

So you forgot....big deal. I forget lots of stuff......what were we talking about?

Yes Robino, I forget stuff all the time. Age being a factor and the stroke I had 5 years ago doesn't help much. Sometimes it's hard to even keep my attention on what I....OH LOOK, THERE'S A SQUIRREL!!.
