Thanks guys,definitely gonna be fun to build..as far as batteries go ive always used efest 18650 35amps in my mech mods.Will these work safely or should i invest in a pair of vtc5s or another?

The purple Efest 35A batteries are only 20A continuous NOT 35A as is printed on the wrapper. If you need a 30A battery the Sony VTC4's are the way to go. RTD Vapor had them in stock last time I looked. You won't find any authentic VTC5's around. Lots of counterfeit ones in the market.

Here are a couple of blog posts by Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) on batteries.

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Hi all, I am also new to the forum and am interested in building a DIY box but with LiPo battery's. Im hoping someone with experience can answer a few questions that is probably more of preference than a problem but here it goes. I am leaning towards a Hammond 1590N1 box, IRLB3034PBF N channel mosfet, Trigger switch E-Switch PV3H2B0SS-346 and there are a range of dc-dc converters with the proper amp and voltage specs comparable to mainstream boards most varying input voltage from 4.5v-14v / 0.7v-5.5v out from 10-20amps. The Lipo batterys I am looking at using in this box is a running dual 7.4v turnigy 1700mah 20C discharge paralleling them together with JST-XH Parallel Balance Lead 2S, and finally a lipo voltage checker for 2s-8s that seems like it could be modified with a splicer cable to mount it anywhere in/on the box. My biggest question is with the preference being the issue would the dc/dc converter be better than the N-mosfet in this box with the 2 lipo batteries mentioned?
