mod, super find :) I went through the complete fastener selection early, didn't think of heading back once I found that mirror mount screws were the right part.

Could you post the link for the kit you found? That brings the punch in at < $8 total.

Violet, you are 100% correct. I initially saw that punch referenced at a european site, a pita to order. I started looking for how to make one here before seeing that COV was picking them up. Between the drillspot hub, and mod finding the little mirror kit, it comes in at a really nice price, and you have 4 of the screws, the part that will wear over time.

The screw. The hub has a 1/4-20 threaded hole, so it needs a 1/4-20 sheet metal screw. A screw with a drill head doesn't work, it has to be a normal pointed sheet metal screw.

I found out that at least some US cars use a 1/4-20 for mounting mirrors. The links in the original post show a couple of parts that work. MOD found a little mirror mount kit at homedepot that has the proper screws.

Please do if you are at home depot. I have not found them.

I looked all over and can not find that stupid receipt or the package...sorry...I will keep looking online...it was a kit with 4 plastic clips and 4 screws (no wall anchors) that was supposed to be for putting a mirror on medicine cabinets. If I head back to lowes or HD I will try to get a pic and SKU number.

I actually just bought a box of 25, off amazon, before I found rivet. Unit cost ended up being $0.6 including the s&h. I've sent packs of 3 or 4 out to people.

Even buying from rivet, several screws, it ends up being cheaper than cov, which also has shipping cost.

I came up with mine because cov didn't have them yet, and when they did get then they sold out very fast on an initial small batch. Mine runs $9 - $12 total, for hub and 3 screws, depending on how the screws are obtained.

Since I spent $20 on two different sv, with mediocre results, I was quite happy to find a $10 class solution that works well.

Nothing against sv, and certainly nothing against the punch cov carries, whatever works for people is good.

you can also do some v cuts with a dremel and then smooth the point with the side of a double cutting wheel (just put 2 on) or a Heavy Duty (grey) cutoff wheel. If you have the oxide sanding sleeves they will work for smoothing as well.

I went back to home depot...could not find these again...maybe I was wrong and I got them at lowes or sears hardware...Ace usually has them as well (and they can definately find something in their hillman isle that will work...sorry to get hopes up...I will keep looking at retail stores to see if I can find it and upload a pic and sku number.

The screws look to be the same screws that most car dealers use to screw in license plates. Pop into any dealer and they'll probably just give you a couple. They have hundreds. You'll even find them laying on the ground cuz the lazy lots boys just throw them down when they take the plates off of a trade in.
