Make sure you get USP grade PG and VG. VG is the cloud producer, PG is the flavor carrier. Most people start at a 50/50 balance. Most of my juices are at that level and I'm comfortable. If you're going for bigger clouds, a higher VG content would work. There is a DIY section here:
DIY E-Liquid | E-Cigarette Forum
and has plenty of experts who are glad to help guide new "chemists"

I started making my own juice around a week ago and have found it pretty easy to get started with the right tools :)
I bought a gold starter kit from The Alchemists Cupboard (a UK DIY juice site) and it came with everything I needed to get started.
Its definitely a cheaper way to vape and im hoping to perfect my juice making in the coming weeks :) give me a shout if you find any good tips on your travels ;)

How easy is it to make your own ejuice and does the vg/pg mix really matter? I get the impression the higher the vg the cloudier the exhale.

Welcome callumari! Yes, DIY is relatively easy. The link to the DIY thread is perfect. Read blogs by Hoosier, Dannyv45, and Bill's Magic Vapor. Each of these guys is incredibly experienced in juice-making.

PG/VG does make a difference. PG is thinner and provides more "throat hit". VG is thicker and helps yield more vapor. A lot depends on the type of topper you're using as to whether you may have success with one PG/VG ratio over another.

They all have recommendations of gear to get and types of flavors to have in your arsenal. There are a decent number of flavoring bases - Capella, LorAnn, FlavourArt, The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) among many. You may find that you can make all your flavors from one manufacturer; you may have to have bits and pieces from many. Just depends on what you like.

The same flavor from different manufacturers probably will need different percentages. Example, you might have a Vanilla Custard flavoring from Capella, and it calls for one percentage in a recipe, but if you have a Vanilla Custard from TFA, you might need a different percentage to yield the same flavor.

Start with small batches. You don't want to jump into a 60mL bottle, only to find it's disgusting :D

Bill's Magic Vapor talks a lot about 100DT - 100 Drop Test. Basically, you count the number of each drop of each flavoring (which constitutes 1% of the overall mix) and then fill the rest with enough PG/VG and Nic to make the balance of 100 drops. You can let it sit for a time (steep, if you will) or try it right away (ATM - at time of mixing). You should get about 3-5mL juice, depending on the size of your drops.

Take GREAT notes, or else you'll come up with a fantastic juice that you'll never be able to properly replicate....

Good Luck!

I've made my own liquids for several years now.

DIY can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.
I choose to use the KISS method.
I swiped a pint canning jar & a Pyrex measuring cup from the kitchen.
    50ml of 100mg nic base/PG
    150ml of PG
    200ml of VG
    -------------------------
    400ml of 12mg 50/50 unflavored base

I then use an irrigation syringe to draw off 30ml to fill my juice bottles, and add flavoring concentrate to desired taste. Usually 1 drop of flavoring/2ml of base (15 drops for a 30ml bottle)

Takes me about 2 minutes to make a bottle of juice.
It's best to make a bottle of juice about a week before needed. (steeping)

Their starter kits are well priced but i found their VG to be really thin as it was diluted with distilled water :)
If you want thicker VG i would reccomend Cloud9Vaping, just bought a 250ml bottle of it and its crazy thick!

VG from Walmart or pharmacy works fine (just be sure it states it is USP grade on its label). Even better: you can order PG and VG from Essential Depot (or from Amazon, the same Essential Depot stuff) in bigger volume and cheaper.

The vg/pg mix does matter. A high vg mix will work fine in an RDA but may be too thick to wick properly in an RTA(clearomizer). If using an RTA start at a 50/50 blend then you can increase vg upto about 75% to find what wicks best for you.

Right now I am vaping non flavored 90% VG + 10% water in RTA (Kayfun V4) with no problems. And I am not an RTA/wicking guru at all.
