DIY - first week with my stuff...

Hey there everyone. So I just spent about a week with my stuff from Wizard Labs and I have to say...

originally I wanted to get into some DIY to
1. save money
2. replicate flavors I fall in love with that my favorite local vape shop can't seem to keep stocked lately

I have to say I picked up about 16 flavors from Wizard and so far every single one of them is THE BOMB! How did I buy bad ejuice when I can just mix up a single flavor and get such good results? What were these other people doing wrong in larger quantity production?

Anyway so far my FAVORITE OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT COST ME LESS THAN 2 DOLLARS TO MAKE 15ML of this is probably
COLA
Wow! I got the Cola flavor (not to be confused with Cola Syrup flavor) from WL as well - Flavor Apprentice and holy hell it's the best tasting yet!

I am super afraid to try the black tobacco and black honey tobacco as some people have noted that there is a rather long steeping time attached to these two and I'm finding this batch of Strawberry Vanilla Cupcake I whipped up is steeping quite nicely after just a few days. Kind of using the bakery flavor to get me through the morning craving for coffee + cigarette! I was going to use tobacco flavor but got a little afraid after reading on here some feedbacks.

I been passing this around to smokers at work and now 5 of them are asking me to get them a device and mix them some juice. I've even made 40 dollars in profits just helping people get set up!

A couple of the ladies at the office want special flavors I haven't ordered yet so I took the money they wanted to pitch in and ordered the supplies. I'm not trying to make money - just enjoying not smoking and they are paying me to help them :)

Ok I been vaping on this Cola all day and all night and just HAD to post! More flavors to come and maybe I'll even follow a formal recipe at some point! :)

Sounds like you are off to a great start. So many people want to jump right into complex recipes and totally miss the fact that they can make great juice with one (or no) flavors, it is hard to keep telling them, "Hey, slow down a bit and don't miss the forest for the trees." Regarding the tobacco flavors, since you expect steeping will be required, isn't sooner rather than later the best time to mix up a few small test batches? Start with low percentages, because you can always add a bit more. Taste them shortly after mixing (you might like them just like that) and then again periodically during the steeping process to see how they develop. That will help you later, when you make something that is like, this is pretty good, but it needs a bit of something.

Saving money? Oh heck yeah, that too. And now you have a new creative outlet to help get over the transition from inhaling burnt crap. Regarding replicating flavors, that is the trickiest part, but you might make something that you like better than what you were trying to replicate. You'll probably make a few you don't like, but with the cost savings, you can give those away or something. Do note that if you make a business out of it, you will need to register with ECF to discuss that aspect (forum rules).

It's good to be free lol
All my vape gear has ben payd for by buying more then I need and saling the extra .
It's hard for me to see someone spend $49.95 on a $3.49 ego plaster pack at the mall.
I give away blister packs now as a free gift to people that wish to try to quit smoking .
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you .

.

For some reason I'm afraid to taste bad juice lol. I bought some premixed 15 ml at 9.99 in a pinch last month and this one was vile! It didn't taste at all like the flavor was supposed to be - grape. That said, I have made a banging grape as well as my vanilla strawberry cupcake and the cola for less than it cost me for that whole bottle lol.

But you're right, I just have to do it.

On a side note, what to do when a flavor just needs an extra something. I did get a sweetner, a sour and should have got a smooth from Wizard but that said, I suppose this is part of the hobby part of it.

Also, I am not at all making a business of it. So far I have had to make those girls at work special flavors cause they don't seem to like mine :D

I'm so glad you got off to a good start. Don't be afraid to taste bad flavors. We all have success and failures its all part of the learning process. Steeping is a big part of DYI expecially for tobaccos. Do some research on steeping as there are many ways to speed that process up. Read my blog on steeping and you will be ready to go in no time. As far as "adding that little something" I have a blog on additives that will help with that and hoosier has a great blog on it as well. keep at it and you will be swimming in great tasting juice.

My blogs
E-Cigarette Forum - dannyv45 - Blogs

hoosier's blogs.
E-Cigarette Forum - Hoosier - Blogs

then be sure to read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

Welcome to the forums.

Congrats on your early success. I have around 30 TFA flavors and have made 5 recipes that I can vape all day. I have a lot more in the development stage and having trouble making a decent tobacco vape.

Would love to hear which flavors are your all day vapes! I know what you mean about development - I'm trying to perfect my Strawberry Cupcake with some Vanilla...custard or cream...bean? I'm not sure but now I got another 15 flavors coming it could get complicated....but first single notes and then onto something else when i get bored :)

Yes true @ Willy, why play with tobacco if bakery isn't broken? Cause I'm curious :) That said, Dannyv you are the one that put me off the black honey tobacco (what you write about steeping and the flavor of it intimidated me because i'm sheepish lol) but I had already ordered it thinking I was smart lol.

So now that you scared me you come to the rescue to help me :) thank you!!

Thanks all you guys and girls for the help. I know failures will happen and I need to not be so scared lol it's just flavoring ffs. I'll make sure to post my mess ups too :)

The other great advantage to starting off slowly, as you have, is that when you have enough successes under your belt, a few failures is not such a big deal, and you are less likely to feel like, "Well this is a horrible waste of time," or suffer a bunch of heartburn and throw in the towel.

I've been mixing a long time and have many mixes I would concider all day vapes but on the other hand I have just as many failures. Always remember "to err is human, to really screw things up you need a computer":)

I have heard that anybody can make mistakes, but to totally screw things up, you need an expert.

Sometimes I just add 1-2% TFA Marshmallow for that extra something.

Or 3% TFA Vanilla Swirl + 2% TFA Sweet Cream.

Or 1-3% of TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, or CAP NY Cheesecake.

And TFA Brown Sugar Extra is a "must have" flavor, adds a sweet bakery effect at .5% to 3%.

I bought TFA brown sugar extra about 3 months ago for that very reason and forgot I bought it so I never used it. Thanks for reminding me. Time to break it out and try it for that extra sweetness in my vanilla custard/Vanilla cupcake mixes. I think that will go good in my honey tobacco mix instead of sweetener.

Yep, I use it in many recipes, even fruits, and I like it way better than Sweeteners.

Glad to hear your having a great time DIY'ing. Im new at it too and having a blast. Ran across this http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...t-juice-average-flavoring-percentages-me.html last night and it seems to be real good info for newbies like us. If you havent already dont forget to check out Danny's blogs. Very informant and well written.

When you mix up something and others love it, its a great feeling. Earlier this week I took a simple recipe that Danny share and added some strawberry to it. At least 6 ladies I know just raved about how great it was and I keep it in my daily rotation because its that good. The simple recipes always seem to be the best ones.

Been also meaning to try maple syrup instead of sweetener. Sweetener itself seems to need that little extra flavor push that the brown or maple has on top of it's sweetening abilities.
