Hi :)

I ordered a blem door to play with. I wasn't a big fan of my red door when I got it, was thinking it was more of a flat red, but it's sparkly. I'm good with it now, but figured I'd get a cheap door to play with.
Anyone have any tips on painting the door?
Specific paints to use? Clear coat to use?
Sand off all paint or just rough it up so the new coat holds?
Any tips for cool designs? I've got a drill and a dremel if anyone has any ideas that requires those kinds of tools.

I've got a black wrinkle grand, thinking about maybe doing a white base coat, then doing a the outline of a tribal dragon on it and doing a black coat on top, so just the outline of the dragon shows... That's one thought anyway. The silver vain doors look awesome in the pictures, but I have no idea how to do that myself :)

Anyway, I'm just looking for tips or ideas anyone has. Thanks in advance!

I've played around with a few doors. One thing, I regret using the drill and Dremel on one. It turned out okay but such a pain. As far as paint, there are 'vein' paints at Lowes and Home Depot if you have something like that around. I have also been known to paint one, strip it, re paint, so on and so on.....lol
Go for it and have fun. Like you say, get a couple blemish doors and play. Can't wait to see what you come up with. The dragon sound cool.

Correction.......maybe. It seems I remember Hammertone and wrinkle paints but maybe not so much vein. This is one I was playing with. Ended up stripping it down again afterwards.

That would be cool. Personally, I would worry about there not being enough contrast between the green and black but then again..... Do a metallic green REO with white stripes to match the guitar.:)

Maybe go to Hobby Lobby or a craft store. You would be surprised at how many ideas you can find just walking around. Someone there would direct you and help with paints that are good on metal work. Did you see the beautiful force patina doors done on the brass doors? Just gorgeous. Here it is if you did not see it. You may bet some ideas about clear coatings and stuff there.

Good luck to you and look forward to see what you do. (btw I like the one you redid)
