So the second "menthol" I tried after the DeKang stuff that came along with my first 510 starter kit was vsvapor's Seattle. I'll explain the quotes in a moment. I think I've gone through a gallon of this flavor since starting in June. And it finally happened--Out of Stock! So what better time to strike out and find another menthol I could enjoy just as much. So after trying some "real" menthols I see now that Seattle has very little if any of that traditional menthol taste, that taste you get in a classic Hall's cough drop and what I'm assuming is derived from actual menthol crystals. After trying some real menthols I realized I was just after some good mint tastes. Wish I could dig up the thread but someone around here urged menthol seekers to set aside the menthol label and just try various mint juices and DIY's Peppermint was suggested. So I tried their doublemint, peppermint, and mint.
Mint: Not my favorite of the lot but by far the most unique. You'd think this would just be a straightforward spearmint juice, not at all. In fact I still can't put my finger on what the secondary flavors are in this one. There's definitely a candy quality to it, maybe a touch molasses? It's deceivingly complex for something labeled simply "Mint." There is definitely a hint of spearmint to it, and it gives that minty effervescence, but its well balanced with the other flavors so that in the end it's got an earthy taste.
Doublemint: For my taste this is a tie with Peppermint. Definitely a facsimile to the gum. Spearmint on the head, but a general mintiness and sweetness that follows. I think this one of the freshest tastes I've come across so far, almost gives you the impression you just brushed your teeth. The liquid is clear as water too.
Peppermint: I found that this was the "menthol" I was really after. It's just peppermint, plain and simple, but I strongly recommend anyone seeking a different menthol try this out. It has just as much bite and effervescence as a strong traditional menthol, but in a different flavor. Even if you want the tobacco undertones, I still recommend you try this. Again, its a very clean and fresh taste.
All of these juices were consistent as far as vapor and throat hit goes, great and great. I've been stepping down on nicotine content so I'm still adjusting to lower throat hit in general, but these definitely still have it (Low 12-18mg), and the vapor production is nice and cloudy. DIY is very generous as far as bonuses go: I got a sampler of their Booberry Poundcake, Ti Amo, and Tea Party. They also threw in some extra bottles, pipettes, and some blue foam. These guys are great! I just tried the Ti Amo and I think I'll have to keep this around. Its very fruity, but done well enough that its an escape from those over the top fruit-punch tastes, think gourmet fruit juice compared to juice boxes.
