So I'm ready to start DIY, I have in my cart from ecigexpress 120ml nicotine (VG), 30ml condensed hypnotic mist flavor, and 120ml 50/50 pg/vg base. I like about 40pg/60vg mix so I figure w/ the 50/50 + VG nic this should be about right. My question is what else do I need to mix this stuff? I saw the calculator http://www.ecigexpress.com/ejuice-calculator.php which is cool but do I need anything else besides a syringe and an empty bottle to do this? I also see they sell starter kits but I figure they're probably not necessary (like the e-cig kits aren't imo). So is this all I need or am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.

I would think it more prudent to get your PG and VG bases separately, rather than mixed at 50/50. Depending on your intended nic strength, having them pre-mixed might not give you the ratios you're hoping for.

For example, if you wanted a 10ml batch of juice at 15% flavour (and I'm spit-balling at the nic strength you chose):

Nic juice: 100% VG @ 48mg

You would need in the bottle...
  • 2.08 ml of Nicotine eJuice
  • 2.5 ml of PG
  • 3.92 ml of VG
  • 1.5 ml of Flavour
In this scenario, the 50/50 base would only be useful if you also had another 1.42 ml of VG to add so that your ratios are correct, because instead of 2.5 ml of PG, and 3.92 of VG, you'd have to use 5 ml of your 50/50 base, then add 1.42 ml of VG for the recipe to work.

I see, ok thx for the info. I'm thinking now of actually just getting VG base, VG nic and the flavoring has some PG in it which I think is enough for me. I like all the 100% VG juices I've tried anyway so maybe I'll just stick to that and then I won't have to really worry about ratios.

If you're a 100% VG juice fan, then that'd work!

I got it, I vape 12mg nic so if I buy 120ml of 12mg VG nic I can use it instead of a base (w/o nic) and just add flavor. I'd only need no-nic base if I was buying 48mg nic to cut...is this right?

Like DuaneNeveu said, once you add the flavoring, it will reduce the nicotine. If you use 10% flavoring, the nicotine strength will be reduced by 10%. You might want to buy 24 mg nicotine and a bottle of VG which is pretty cheap to keep at your target of 12 mg. nic.

If you don't care if it's exactly 12 mg. that's definitely the easiest way. Less fuss.

WOW. I hadn't done the math, but Caridwen is quite right. It certainly seems that your nic level will take a bigger hit than I had realized!

After plugging in the numbers using 100% VG base at 12 mg strength, the best you can hope for in a 10 ml batch at 10% flavouring is a finished nicotine strength of 10.8 mg.

That would obviously also leave you with a 90% VG juice, not 100%. All in all, it would keep it simple for you, and give you most of what you're looking for.
