I try to avoid those, too (diketones), but sometimes you just gotta. Cake batter for example. OMG, I can't live without my cake batter flavoring, and so far I haven't seen a diketone-free version of that. Or butter. I did get a bottle of cake batter DIP, but it's not even close. It's not bad, but it's not "cake batter." So I treat my juice like I treat the rest of my life - I try to avoid bad stuff as much as I can, but if I can't, I don't lose too much sleep over it. I smoked for over 40 years at two packs a day, I don't think there's anything vaping can do to me that's worse than THAT. You know? :)

How do I go about knowing which flavors have diketones in them? I was planning on buying all of my flavors from Bull City / Wizard Lab and getting everything else from Nude Nicotine, this is my updated flavoring list, but now from people mentioning it, I'm worried about them containing diketones as the websites don't explicitly state they are free of them:

  • Banana FW, Watermelon TFA, Honeysuckle TFA, Blueberry Wild TFA, Green Tea TFA, Sweet Strawberry CA, Honeydew Melon CA, Fresh Cream FA, Milk FW, and Ethyl Maltol TFA.
I've also read that the replacement for diacetyl, etc is butyric acid which is just as worse... so, at a bit of a loss here.

I order 99% of my flavorings, most all TFA, from Wizard Labs, and they state that none of their flavorings contain diacetyl, which is a main diketone many used to be concerned with. As far as the other diketones...on each page for their individual flavorings, it shows the Ingredients List which contains most contents like PG, Art. & Natural flavorings, etc.

Then under that...is information from the flavoring manufacturer (ie. TFA). If either or both of the other 2 main diketones (Acetoin & Acetylpropionyl) are in that flavoring...it will tell you there. Usually, they'll be found in some of the custardy note flavorings, the creamy type ones.

They DO also carry what's called the "DX versions" of many of the regular version s that do have either one or both of those. For example, they carry a regular Banana Cream (with 1 or both of those in it) AND they carry the DX Banana Cream with neither of those in it. I just usually always order the DX versions myself.

The TFA website itself will also tell you what each flavoring contains. So that's another source.

By the way, Wizard Labs also carries Nic products, as well as VG, and PG in quantity. They've all been good from them, IMO. You could save yourself some S/H by ordering more things from 1-2 places instead of all 3.

I hope that helps!

I just noticed this, so decided to post again.

Did you know that TFA Blueberry Wild contains Ethyl Alcohol? It personally gives me a headache if I try to vape any eliquid with it in it right away. Does the same to several of my friends.

I can use it though, as long as I let the EA evaporate out of it before trying to vape it. I only know about that one flavoring in particular though, because I had to do that to mine in order to use it. Same with several other flavorings I have. I haven't checked any others you have listed though. You may want to, if it's a concern for you, too.

Also, I noticed you still only have 1 cream on your list to use with your fruit flavorings. I'm just curious - Are you leery of other creams, forms of vanilla, etc. because of your concern for diketones...or you just don't think you'll need them, even though you've received numerous suggestions from current DIYers to probably get a few? We're all trying to be helpful to you here, so you can avoid what's happened to other newbies to DIY. Quite a few have ordered similar flavorings to what you have, only to later post that they're having trouble making things that taste good. Reason was 9 out of 10 times...they had no or too few creams, forms of vanilla, etc. to mix with their fruits. Just something else to maybe consider is all.

Thank you and all others who have helped me on this post, today I made my first DIY purchase. I took everything you guys said into consideration and in case you're curious, these are the flavors I bought:

CAP Sweet Strawberry, CAP Sweet Watermelon, CAP Banana, CAP Blueberry, CAP Sweet Cream, CAP Bavarian Cream, TFA Green Tea, TFA Honeysuckle, TFA Vanillin, and TFA Ethyl Maltol.

I did the best I could as some of the others I was initially going to buy were out of stock, but I feel quite content in this list of flavors and already have a few recipes thought of so I can tweak them to perfection! I also had to limit the amount I bought because my funds were limited, so considering those factors I believe I did quite well for my first purchase to get the feel of DIY'ing.

I really appreciate everyone who commented on this post, and it was most definitely helpful! :)
