I have been a volunteer firefighter since I was 17 years old. I celebrate my 25th anniversary as a part time smoke eater this Aug. I have loved helping people from day one. We get to see the outcome from bad decisions and it sometimes breaks our hearts. I can honestly say that it feels awesome when we get to save a life and help someone that we will probably never see again. We don't expect anything in return which is fine by me.

Honestly, most of us are just living out our boyhood dreams of riding a firetruck. Lol....

I know what it feels like to receive a blessing, with NO strings attached!!
Life is getting harder and harder, I like to give to brighten someones day.
I also give with knowing how GREAT it feels and that makes me feel GREAT!!:D
To watch someones look of disbeief change to utter greatfulness.
There eyes change from hopelessness to complete Joy. You would never be
able to understand what giving, to someone that is in need, feels like unless you
have actually been there yourself!! As I have!!!

Me and my mom lived together expecting nothing from the rest of the world due to past events, then I realized just because me and her helped ourselves doesn't mean I can't help others. Its that feeling you get when you give someone that extra edge that (at least for me) makes me feel like I have helped someone for the better and hopefully started a series of fortunate events

Of course when you help someone it makes you feel all warm n fuzzy inside... but for me it all boils down to treating others as I would like to be treated. I know if I ever needed help(wich I have...alot..lol) I would want someone to help me like I would help them. That way we can all help our communities and world to be a better place for us all.

Nothing in this world feels better than to put that kind of a smile on someone's face. I am a painter, well I don't paint as often as I should, but I have it in my soul to be a painter. For as long as I can remember the paintings of mine that are not only my best, but bring me the most joy are the ones that I do to give to someone I love. Its a feeling that is hard to describe but I'll try; its like giving a piece of myself, of my heart away, because that is what I am doing when I paint, putting myself on canvas and its also scary to put yourself out there like that and to give it away and hope it means something to the recipient as well. Nothing to me feels better than that, to me that is one of my best examples of giving freely of myself because it is me I am giving away.

Right Over Here
Whether it's opening a door or filling a need, doing something nice for someone else makes my world a better place, makes me feel better about myself because it reminds me of being a kid. Thinking that the way it should be is the way it is, at least for a moment- that the world can be a place where everyone helps each other.

I don't know why it makes me feel good. It just does.

I love it when I can bring a smile, a new spark to someones eyes. Eyes that have looked beaten down by life. Eyes that expect there to be no random kindness left in life.

But, we do get something in return for that even if it is just a feeling of happiness ourselves.

If it hadn't been for giving people I wouldn't be where I am today! SmokeFree! I try to do the same for other people to help them. So far i have converted the 2 of my son's that smoked and 4 friends from work and a complete stranger on the street that saw me and stop to ask what I was doing. The Internal gratification you feel is wonderful when you do it! It is the right thing to do!
