OK, so I read this on the data sheet for the DNA 30:

Too low power setting: The DNA 30D puts out a minimum of 4 volts. With low power settings (7 to 8 watts) and low resistance atomizers (below 2 ohms) the DNA will sometimes be unable to provide a low enough power output to be power regulating. If this is the case, the Ohms display will be flashing. The device will still operate.

So, if I am reading correctly, the device cannot output less than 4 volts. Using Ohm's Law, with a .5-ohm load, you would get 32 watts. So it appears that this "feature" essentially renders the DNA 30 useless for sub-ohm vaping with commonly available .5 ohm coils.

The resistance reading flashes when the wattage is lower than what will be produced from 3.7v (or whatever the battery is currently pushing) on your current coil. So, for example, if you're running a 1Ω coil, and you set the wattage to 7w, you'll end up getting 13.7w because the DNA chip is unable to lower voltage.

Your 0.5Ω will fire at 30w so long as your battery is under 3.9v. Not sure if it will throw an error if the battery is at 4.2v.

EDIT: Remember, the actual cut off has to do with current, not resistance.

So if you are going to vape .5-ohm coils at lower wattage the DNA 30 seems to be a poor choice. I had one and sold it when I found that the vape was much warmer than some of my other mods when set at the same wattage. Not a knock on the DNA 30, I realize that it was designed in a different vaping "era" before sub-ohm coils became vogue.

No, I get that but there are better and cheaper options that will perform perfectly using a much wider range of coil resistance. I mean I can vape for more than a day on an iStick30, and get exactly the vape I want while investing a lot less in equipment. Again, I understand that the regulated mod scene has exploded since the DNA 30 was introduced and that things have changed dramatically. All of which is why I feel I made a sound decision, based on my vaping style, selling my DNA 30. Just amazing to me how things have changed so quickly as the DNA 30 was bleeding edge not that long ago, and looking at all the options available now.
