I just received a Vaporshark rDNA 40 and am using a Squape R on it with nickel wire. The current build is reading .13 ohms. I have temp control enabled at 440 and watts set to 18. I am noticing that although that works great and most of the time, my display randomly reads out in volts, not temperature control. I have watched the display while firing and have seen it change from volts to temp in the middle of a fire. I have also seen it display volts on one fire, then temp on the next. I don't know for sure, but I think it is actually changing modes when it does this, based on the vape. I have tried several things to correct this like changing temp, tuning temp off and firing then turning temp back on, taking off the Squape and letting it cool, then replacing it and calling it a new coil (and an old coil) when prompted. I seem to be able to get it to hold in temp control mode by removing the battery briefly and replacing it. That is a bit of a pain as I use a Sharkskin cover. I don't think this is normal behavior. Has anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions? Could it be my coil build (I've tried a few)? Thanks!

It may also be that your coil isn't locked down solid under the screws.

After a month a using mine I've found that either the tank, rda or I am the problem when that happens. The chip reads the resistance of the coil all the time and if you have a bad connection it will misinterpret the ohms or type of wire used in the coil.

Once you figure out where the challenge is occurring it will be a solid vape. Be careful though, when it jumps out of TC and goes to voltage you are most likely frying your cotton.

I have a squape and my vote would be the 510 connection since there were a bunch of us that had an issue with the 510.

Thanks for the suggestions! It's reassuring to know it is likely a correctable user error. Kinda figured that. I have a Squape R that has an adjustable 510. The Vaporshark has a floating/spring-loaded 510, so it's hard to screw that up. I did back out/lengthen the 510 on the Squape, and haven't seen that behavior again yet. I'll make sure the coil is good and tightened down my next build too. I have to brag a little....the combo of a Squape R and VS rDNA 40 is just stellar! Thanks again!

Both are fine pieces of equipment. You'll find you sweet spot and be in vaping heaven soon enough. Good luck Joe!

Note that squapes often don't work well with TP. Internal conductivity seems poor or inconsistent.

This is good to know, as this was the first atty (Squape R) I was going to try with TP when my new DNA 40 arrives tomorrow. I already had a Vaporflask but it's in getting a new chip (barely even got to use it), so I ordered a Hana Mini to tide me over till the VF makes it back to me.

I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

You may want to try with a simpler or different atty first, or keep it in mind if you have any problems with your squape. Some people have good luck. Others have a lot of problems. Seems to be a high degree of inconsistency and I suspect that's the nature of the design and manufacturing.

Gotcha....thanks for the info. I also have a Lemo, 2 Origen Genesis V2's (can build with cotton), and a bunch of drippers I can use nickel in, so maybe I'll try those first....from what I hear, the Lemo seems to work well with nickel.....I just hope I don't get a bum chip again!!

    The Lemo does work well.
Just be sure there is a good connection with the 510, and connecting base, to positive pin. If not it will jump in and out of TP mode.

    Go O.A...(class of 76):toast:

Actually I've seen some people have trouble with the Lemo as well. But less than the squapes.

FWIW, my Squape R and VS in TP mode has been rock stable since I wrote the original post. In my case, the problem was most likely user error, probably related to the adjustable 510 on the Squape R.

What did you do to correct the problem? Adjust it out? In? I have mine adjusted almost all the way in right now, but I am running a Kanthal build on it. When my Hana box arrives today I think I am going to give nickel a go on the Squape just for the heck of it......I will let you know how it goes! :)

The Lemo works very well with the nickel builds, but be sure to trap the wire under the screw heads (Kayfun style) and don't use the post holes. Using the post holes can work, but it just adds unnecessary potential for issues.
