Do 18650 mods put off higher than normal output power? Constant burning of wicks/flavor wicks alike!

Back when I had an eGo Twist and my first Protank 2, I would use 2.8 ohm heads on 4.0ish volts. Replaced my wicks with rolled cotton and the wick would normally last me 4-5 days, sometimes even a week off the same strand of rolled cotton. Used 70/30 juice of key lime menthol, never had much of a problem

Now with my new VV/VW mod, I'm using the same ohm head (2.8..and new coil head of course) on a Protank 2, and using cotton wicks with the stock silica flavor wicks. But this time, I'm having to change the flavor wicks and coil wick almost daily...they keep having black burn spots, and I can detect the taste from them on each draw.

Easy fix right..."you must be using more power than the coil can stand!" right?

Well...funny thing is, I really don't think I am. I've been alternating between the 4.0 voltage setting, and around 6.0-6.5 wattage setting (that's about equivalent to 4-4.1 volts I believe). I'll get a good vape for the first 20 or so pulls, than it just starts tasting funny. But when i go down to 3.7 volts, or about 5.0-5.5 wattage, the vape doesn't seem that good anymore, and my vape cloud and throat hit is much milder. It's like there is no happy medium; and the chip in the mod shows clear as day the coil is at 2.8 ohms. Could it be my mod is putting off more power than what my eGo was, even though im using the same voltage/power settings?

The user guide for the STM-1 states that the mod gives off more power than most other 18650 mods, but for a guy like me, that's a very vague statement. This is my first mod in general, let alone one that uses the big ... battery that is the 18650.

I'm kind of bummed i drop $80 on a nice mod just to find out my $22 Twist did it better. I feel like I'm just missing something!

Not the size of the battery but the voltage and resistance of the coil

fixed voltage (aka straight battery mods) you have to adjust the resistance of the coils...get a 1.8Ω to 2.2Ω coil and your vape will improve ALOT!

5.5 is a bit low...most vapers run 6-8 watts...I have been vaping at 6.5 since I started

See, that's what I figured...but going that high seems to burn my wicks quicker and distorts the juice's taste some. That's why I'm wondering if my mod is giving off more power at settings that would be "normal" for most everyone else.

It would be interesting to use a scope to to look at the wave forms both your power sources produce. Given its price, I'm betting that the STM-1 uses PWM, but the question is at what frequency? Anyone know what kind of wave form an eGo Twist produces?

This is what I had wondered also, could be the Twist with its 4.8 voltage limit doesn't pulse as high or often as a device with a 6 volt limit. But the truth is, I don't really know the answer to that. I do know many ProVari owners like the ProVari's relatively flat scope line, claim it makes the juice taste better.
