Specifically, I'm talking about dripping attys. Since a bottom air hole will cause the air to directly carry the vapor straight up, is it better than a side air hole, which (air) has to make a 90 degree turn to travel the drip tip?
If you want both, take a look at the lotus at fasttech. Todd has a review up on the real one as well. If you're just interested in mouth to lung and .9 and above ohms, take a look at the immortalizer.
And for a totally different idea, take a look at getting the 12 dollar kayfun and the nano kit for it plus a clear middle tank section. Then you can set it up as a dripper when you want or a tank which ever way you want to go. The kayfun makes a fabulous dripper, but again, not good for sub ohms and lung hits. (Edit: and all less than 20 at ft).
How would you drip a Kayfun? Leave the chimney cap off and just drip it? Guess that could work, never tried it.
IMO dripping a kayfun is just plain stupid (Im not calling JD1 stupid, just the idea of using a Kayfun as a dripper), you're just adding way more hassle to get the same exact vape as if you just used the tank.
I have a kayfun and when I use it as it was designed to be used, the flavor matches up to my dripper.
You can get a decent dripper for $10-20
For the OP
I don't think that where the holes are exactly make a tank better than another. My old Kanger mini protank has airflow underneath the coil, and the flavor does not even begin to match my dripper (Holes on the side), but then again my kayfun has the exact same flavor production as my dripper with the airflow on the bottom.
IMO (Take for a grain of salt) it's how much airflow you have coming into your Atomizer or Dripper, not the direction the air is coming from.
I drip in Aqua when convenient. Wouldn't call it stupid. It extends go time between refills.
No - Proper set up will make all the difference.
It is fairly simple to align a wick/coil over a bottom center hole and have good air flow around the coil.
Learning to properly set a wick/coil for best air flow on a side hole is something many do not even realize or consider needs to be done.
Height alignment as well as distance to air hole and side alignment can all play a part in getting a good or mediocre vape.
We may be on the same page.
As a starting point I position coil between air feed and drip tip entrance in the crows flight path. I position coil about 1 mm from air feed for air feed holes near 1 mm. I position coils roughly 2 mm away for larger air feed holes.
How's about you?
Pretty close to the same. I try to keep the coil ever so slightly high to the hole to be certain air crosses directly over the wick. This seems to knock off any undue harshness.
Obviously this is not doable in a Nested cotton situation, but I would run a Tilted Dragon cotton wrapped instead. This way the high end can be aligned to the air path.
"Stupid" probably was not the best word to use. More like "Un-Needed", it does not make your vape more dense and flavorful than if you just used the tank.
Why make something harder than it has to be, is what I was essentially trying to get at.
You guys are talking about different things. The OP talking about bottom fed airflow, not a bottom feeder.
