Does it matter where the air hole is located?

I was wondering if the location of the air hole has any effect on vaping. For example, the vivi nova has an air hole in the bottom, and when you inhale, the air goes in at the bottom and travels up, and "carries" the vapor from the coil to your mouth.

But what if the air hole is located on top instead, above the coil? Now, when you inhale, the air is "down stream" of the coil, so would you get a weaker/diluted vape since the vapor will not be "carried" by the flowing air? Or does it not matter because the vapor will get suctioned anyway (fast moving air creates low pressure)?

Yes it matters a lot. The closer the air hole is to the coil/wick really improves flavor.

This ^^^. It also makes more vapor and helps cool the coil. Having the coil out of the air flow reduces flavor and vapor but increases TH and harshness. The difference is quite noticeable.

Air Hole location is actually critical for proper function.
Air MUST pass across the coil/wick assembly for best function.
Air travel does several things:
a) Draws Vapor off coil/wick
b) Draws fresh e-liquid into wick
c) Draws Heat away and cooling air to the Coil

Proper air flow aids greatly in preventing Burnt taste

I could state the same thing that others have already on here - which are all true. But instead, I'll add something that's been a bit of an issue for me with top-fed wick/coil devices (such as the Vivi Nova).

Most top-fed wicks do not create a vacuum in the tank, which has caused the liquid in the tank to leak through the center column and onto my battery contact several times. While this isn't really a problem because eJuice has almost no conductivity and my batteries all have fault protection - it's a hassle to deal with to say the least. I've also noticed that since the coil is located closer to the drip tip, the vapor is much warmer - and often much more harsh, as well as an often burnt taste.

The other issue I have with top-fed wicks is the fact that I have to swirl the liquid around in my tank. I understand it's not hard and I started with these wicks, so it quickly became a subconscious habit.

But now that I have a Kanger AeroTank (which is a bottom-fed coil), there is no leaking/gurgling, no burning, no swirling, no harshness. I fill up my tank, and when it gets below the wick (which is about at close to empty as you can get), I refill it. Granted, I've never had (or seen) a tank that has the air holes on top - but I'd imagine just from the concept of top-fed wicks that this system just wouldn't work efficiently.
