Depends on the sensor in the alarm and if you blow straight into the alarm.
If I blow vapor straight in to alarm it goes off for 1 second.
The vapor is different than smoke however.
Vapor is absorbed into the atmosphere where as smoke particles are not.
So it is much more difficult for vapor to activate smoke alarm.

I blew vapor straight into the smoke alarm in the bathroom of an airplane... stupid yes, but it was an experiment... didn't do a thing. I did inform the flight attendant that I would be using the device in the bathroom and explained about it first. They were a little skeptical until one of the other flight attendants said that a very frequent flier on another flight was using one and it was fine. They were the ones that asked me to go into the restroom to make sure that the other passengers didn't get upset... so, that's what I did.

Actually it will depend on the alarm and amount of vapor. Photoelectric Detectors detect smoke by using a beam of light. Smoke reduces the amount of light and sets off the alarm. Vapor does the same thing.

These are the kind of smoke detectors that are supposed to be in every airplane bathroom and hotel rooms b/c they detect cigarette smoke well, and if you blow enough vapor into it, it will set it off.

However the time that it takes for the vapor to reach the ceiling (where most smoke detectors are located) is normally long enough for the vapor to dissipate into the atmosphere and not set off the alarm.

That said, I've vaped in many hotel rooms, and plane bathrooms, no problems thus far...

I was going to ask the same question since I'm going on a flight soon. Glad someone beat me to it.

My next question would be getting through security with e-cigs and carts. I'm not checking a bag (just a weekend in Vegas). Anyone have experiences with getting through security?

Just FYI, I'll be flying out of CLE, through Midway and on to Vegas. Return flight is non-stop. Any airport specific info is helpful.

I'm going to stay in a hotel at the weekend and there is a strict no smoking policy and they have smoke alarms in the rooms (I've stayed there tweice before). Would they know if I use my ecig in the room? Does the ecig set off the smoke alarm?

Even 'smoking' rooms in Hotels have smoke detectors in them. So you have nothing to worry about...

As many other posters have stated, you are all good in your hotel! I vape in hotel rooms worldwide, never had a problem!

As far as vaping in airplane lavatories.... While some will not go off, please be advised, that most smoke detectors in the lavs are indeed the photoelctric type and WILL go off if you are vaping madly and blowing direct into the detector. I have set off detectors on my own aircraft testing this theory.

For those of you vaping in airplane lavs, please take a second between drags, and blow your vapor to the floor. If the sink is equipped with suction, which some are, blow your vapor down the drain. Setting off a lav alarm is a real pain in the A** for us flight attendants. It causes a lot of unnecessary paperwork, explanations to the flight deck, and they can be a real ....* to turn off sometimes! ;-)

Safe Travels!

My boyfriend is a non-smoker, so we ALWAYS take the non-smoking room. I vape with my SD and no problem. It doesn't set off the alarm.
Funny thing is that I put shower on too high, and it produced a lot of steam and that set off the alarm. I had to call front desk and let them know that it's not on fire, i just had the shower running on too hot and the room A/C on too cold:lol:

Traveling - I live in Hawaii. I went to Vegas and back. I went to Canada, customs and back. No problem. Not even a raised eye brow as it went through the airport x-ray machine, and I have a SD so I was afraid they might confiscate it or ask me a bunch of questions. I did detach the atomizer and took out the battery. It was basically uneventful....whew!

Airplane - never tried and don't want to risk it. I would say only if I'm that desperate and I don't let the vapor out of my mouth.
