FYI if staying in a hotel you might want to request a smoking room I just set off the smoke alarms in a non smoking room. The fire department showed up and the hotel was ......!! In my defense I told them I vaped pwhen they asked if I wanted smoking or non but apparently the sensors are more sensitive on the non smoking floors.

Just for curiosity sake, what set up were you using?

I'm wondering the same thing. I always request a non-smoking room and my vapor never even reach the ceiling before it dissipates.

And I don't think my "cloud" is that small.

It's the old time and a place thing :) BTW, I think they still sell shower caps at CVS and Wallgreens, ya know, to cover things up ;) :D

Who buys shower caps? Not me. I got plenty, complimentary of the hotel (along with toothbrushes, combs, sewing kits, soap, shampoo, body lotion, etc.) [emoji12][emoji16][emoji307][emoji545]

Rig mod and twisted messes and rx200 with the velocity. I finally took the detector of the wall after moving to a smoking room and still setting it off and the fire dept showed up again. Apparently they automatically dispatch when the alarm goes off. I have never set one off before and I like it cloudy!! Definitely won't stay at the value Inn again. BTW they use new detectors that have a infrared sensor on the wall directly across from the unit it smoke or vapor breaks the beam it goes off. I'm calling corporate in the morning as the night staff tried to make me leave I would have if they were gonna refund my money but they weren't so I refused and threatened to call so they dropped it.

Note: :danger:
Some hotels have an in-line smoke detector system, where if you take the smoke detector off, it will alert the maintenance department, at which time you get a visit from management. They will come in sniffing with the presumption you are smoking, at which time if they smell smoke they will levy the surcharge of $200-$300 for smoking in a hotel room.
Not sure how this would relate to a 'getting caught vaping situation', but they certainly frown upon the removal of the detector.

Been there done that but it was 3AM and the arm was silent in a major casino hotel room. 10 men at the door. Head engineer, other maintenance people and fire department replete with axes.

Told them I was chucking clouds but they insisted on feeling all the walls for heat.

It was not a shining moment. I stayed in my boxers with no shirt on the entire time[emoji44]

Gee...I've stayed in rooms at probably 20 different hotels since I've been a vaper. Never set off an alarm yet vaping, but then again...I don't blow huge clouds either. I've found that exhaling toward the floor helps, and/or like Gavin above ...vaping in the bathroom prevents alarms.

Now, I have set off a hotel alarm though in Wrangell, AK in 2009, when 4 of us had a suite with a full kitchen and I was cooking steaks for dinner. Seared 1 side of them with no problem, then flipped them over to sear the back sides...and smoke immediately filled the room when I did it! Took the pan off the burner, and turned on the exhaust fan over the stove. But...it wasn't even vented to the outside, so all the smoke just blew back out into the room! We threw open the big window and we tried fanning it out with big bath towels, as well as opened the door to the outer hallway. BAD IDEA - as off goes the fire alarm in the hallway, and it wasn't just a tiny, wall-mounted one like in the room either! It was one of those big, giant, round, old-fashioned metal fire bell ones that was SUPER LOUD! People came running out of their rooms, hotel management staff ran to our room, as well as the local volunteer firefighters showed up! I don't EVER want something like that to happen again.

Wrangell's a very small town, too, so wherever we went for the next 2 days...people knew who we were. Yes...we were the tourists who set off the alarm at the Stikine Inn while cooking steaks.

We all thought later - Why didn't we grab our video camera when it was happening? Might've been a winner on AFHV if we'd had it all on tape!

So...don't feel too badly Ken! It coulda' been worse.

There are two types of smoke detector, ionization and photoelectric. You were probably had by a photoelectric detector. My husband set one off in a hotel room by taking a shower (sauna, he’s a wuss) and we had about a dozen people show up, with him in a towel. Idiots had mounted the detector right outside the bathroom. I was smoker then, NEVER smoked in the room and was mortified.

Since then, I’ve vaped in many hotel rooms without the detector going off. Here’s the info Ionization vs photoelectric
