So my question is whether or not I need to oxidize my coil when I search for information all I find are posts: about stainless steel mesh. I really just wanted to know if there was a purpose in oxidizing coil wire that I am using to rebuild my protank 2 atomizer ( using cotton wick).

Does it make the vapor safer? Maybe it protects my battery? Any information on the coils would be greatly appreciated.

After building a coil, I test the resistance with a multimeter, then fire it for 3 reasons. This will make the wire stiffer while I feed cotton through it, this will help it hold its shape after squeezing it together (for micro coils), and I like to check for hot spots. If none of this is important to you, then no, there is no need to torch.

We oxidize our coils when using a SS mesh wick to create a carbon barrier between the coil and wick, so it doesn't short circuit. You don't have to oxidize when you're not using SS. That said, torching your wire before wrapping a normal coil can help reduce springiness, and torching a micro-coil after wrapping it helps it hold its shape.

I am getting best results with building wick n coil with no oxidizing initially. Then installing on device and a few dry burns while adjusting coil for even glow (auto oxidize).

Next step, lock n load + vape :) Working really well for a 0.7 Ohm build with 400 SS wick and 60/40 DIY juice. No torching whatsoever and super wicking.

it all depends on the type of build you are doing, gauge of wire, and what works best for you. Micro coils, I pre torch the wire, makes getting the coils tight and close easier, then I squeeze them together and torch them again, to set the coils shape. Mount and test. Wick saturate and test. Genesis style, hmm, haven't got that one down yet, hybrid wick, oxidize SS mesh roll torch wire, wrap around mesh, torch, mount and test ohms, wick, saturate and test. Haven't tried non resistant to SS mesh yet, but it's on the list.. What works best for you is what you'll find out when trying different methods of builds. That's what building is all about.
